Bmw 2002 Front Panel Replacement

Cartorious

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 1975 BMW 2002 and it's front panel is rusting out, it's part number S1676 in the catalog on this website page: http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/bmw.html

I live in Oregon so this was to be expected, all I need from you guys is where to buy a new one, or perhaps buy one from a fabricator on this website. If that's the case then I am willing to pay right now as I need it shipped to me quickly because the front end of my car looks like junk.

I'm planning on replacing this piece with one that doesn't have the ugly 5mph bumper holes, so that in the future I can drill the European holes for a Euro Bumper swap. But that's for when I have the money, and being a teenager it won't be for a while.

Thanks,

   -Carter

P.S. pictured as "00" is the part I need (see picture) Unfortunately the website doesn't actually sell the part I need, so I have to source it from elsewhere.

that's the nose panel... a lot of work required to change it...do a search for nose replacement

Wow thanks, I couldn't for the life of me figure out the buzzword for that part, but as soon as I typed it in I got a few results. Any way you could give me a fair pricepoint?

How much do they usually go for, is what I'm asking. I see one on Ebay in near perfect condition for 2k.

Also, by "a lot of work required to change it" how many hours would you expect it to take by two untrained amateurs (me and my dad)?

Thanks for the quick response!

Thanks, I looked on ebay same search as you just posted and there are only three available, two at auction. So that fails to give me a good pricepoint.

Thanks though your first idea about doing a google search through the forum worked well. I didn't realize that dropdown menu was there. Thank you

$ 2000 is way too much

Get a price from dealer for new one as starting point

                                  41 33 1 835 659   for '68-73

Grilles are different (all 3) and bumper holes different as well

Part is welded at seams, so you really need experience as to body work

Thanks this is what I wanted. I'll stop by my local dealer today and ask. Then I'll stop by local body repair shop and get a quote on the body work.

The nose panel you're discussing is actually two major pieces:  the sheet metal that holds the grilles and headlights, and the radiator support panel.

As was pointed out, it's a fairly significant undertaking to replace.  If all that's rusted is the lower part of the nose skin itself (the outer part) you might go looking on the parts for sale section to see if someone from a dry climate (like CA, CO or AZ) is parting a car out.  You can then get the outer skin from below the grille openings, cut out the rusty sections on your nose panel and weld in the replacement metal.

I patched some pretty significant rust on my '69's nose below the bumper where they rust (30 salty Ohio winters) with pieces cut from an unrusted nose panel that was damaged in the grille area but OK below.  Can't find the repairs now...and a lot easier (and cheaper) than replacing the whole nose.\

cheers

The nose panel retails for $1750 or close to it , I know we needed one for my son's car after the biker hit it , we got really lucky & found one 10 miles from home for $550 original BMW with stickers still on it, they are out there just keep looking Craig's List was our savior.

It is really up to you if you want to replace or fix what you have.  Without seeing your car in person it is difficult to determine exactly what to do.  Bob (Tilux) has shared what looks like a nice nose section.

They will fit inside a car for transport..

i have changed one and it takes hours to drill out the welds but it can be done by the layman. You just have to

get the correct drill bits, clean the spot welds prior to drilling and be patient. There are probably well over 50 welds to do so it takes time and a number of bits. Putting the the new one on is the trick and that should be done by someone

with experience.

good luck

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
