Looking For A Nice Automatic 2002

Hi all,

My buddy is looking for a nice BMW 2002 Automatic for his daughter to drive around in. He isn't picky of it being a roundie or square tail, just that it be in good running condition, presentable, and well maintained for his daughter.

We are located in Orange County, California and will travel up to 500 miles for the right car. He is ready to purchase now.

If you have a nice automatic that you are looking to part ways with, or know someone who is, send them my way and I'd love to speak with them.

My name is Ryan and you can reach me via private message, email (cnr_mx@hotmail.com), or phone (310-916-7751).

Thank you,

Ryan

Recommend that your buddy teaches his daughter to drive a stick. If my daughter can learn to drive a stick (and she had trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time) then there is hope for your friends daughter to learn. The great thing about teaching my daughter to drive a stickshift on her E30 was that it keeps her off the cell phone while driving and having a stickshift car keeps her more focused on driving. She now dislikes driving an autotragic.  It's a life skill (try renting an automatic in Europe) and the guys will be jealous of her.  Also have your friend read this post. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/151922-bmw-2002-first-car/    I highly recommend an E30 for your friends daughter.

I went and looked at this one yesterday, let me know if you are interested and I can provide some details.  I will mention that since this is a 76, your friend will need to smog it ever other year and based on this cars history with the CA DMV, it hasn't been doing so well (maybe why it is being sold)

I guess the seller did not like the $8500 sell price on ebay (or he had his buddies do his shill bidding for him).  Now it's on CL for $9500.  Or maybe he put it on ebay to see what it was worth....

BTW, it does have some repairable rust (front valance, right door bottom, and left rear quarter panel fender).  No rust in the rockers for a sunroof car.  The gaskets around the windshield and rear window are shot, so no telling what, if any, rust is hiding in there.  Front windshield is cracked.  I could not find any cracks in the dash. Needs paint.  It is a very good original car, however, maybe half that asking price, $7500 tops

Thanks guys.

Still looking. I've done a considerable amount of searching myself, but still nothing that overly interests me at the listed price. And being in California, a 1976 car is out of the question. No sense in getting the one 2002 that requires a bi-annual smog.

Keep them coming. I appreciated all of those who have been helping by posting and emailing me.

Best,

Ryan

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
