M42 Into 2002

I am planning on buying a '75 2002 this weekend as a project car to work on. The car comes with everything.. if not installed. But I am planning on putting in a newer engine, specifically the e30/36 4 cylinder M42. I have heard that they are a good engine to put in. I have a number of BMW's and am pretty learned when it comes to them. So here I am asking to you fine folks of the internet; how do I put this engine in??? I hear that a gentle man, a deity if you will, by the name of jakeb makes mounts for this engine swap, not that I would know how to get ahold of him. If anyone can send me a link to a forum/ build thread of this that would also be great. Some of the other erroneous questions I have are such as: "what transmission should I use? I have a E36 M3 trans, will it work?", "how is the rear end? can I put in a different rear end fairly easily?", "I hate drum brakes just sooooo much. where do I get a disc conversion?", "who, if anyone makes interior pieces and body panels?", "should I turbo???" and finally "think diamond schwartz would look good?".

Thanks, Evan

My car is half way through the M42 swap now. I also used the mounts from jakeb. I didn't use the header however. I'll post pics when it's all done. It's actually killing me that I don't have it now, as the weather is amazing. It's my favorite time of year to be out and about.

I was so stoked on this car.... and then I blew the engine on my E46 M3 at the track yesterday. the kid that is selling it is leaving town and will be taking down his add, so hopefully by the time my M is fixed I can still pick it up. but for now I need to fix the daily. thanks for all the help guys, and if anyone know where there is a cheap/ free s54 let me know!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
