Old Broken Sunroof Cables

Hi All,

I'm Dave Lacey, based in Malaysia and reassembling a '73 02Tii for my wife.... it's Inka and has a factory sunroof. I bought the car in boxes and have odd tiny pieces missing.

I just wondered if someone out there has these small parts after replacing their sunroof cables..

The part I need is the tiny aluminium serrated part (5) that mates with the small aluminium serrated part (7) on the cable.

I see most repalcement cables are supplied with these parts and the 2 steel plates that attach the cables to the roof panel...so I guess those who have replaced the cables have removed these parts with their old broken cables.

BMW called the part 'Verstellmutter' part no 54129734160

Part 5 in this picture.

If you kept your broken cables and they have these parts, do you want to sell??

Dave, I don't believe that replacement sunroof cables come with the two parts you seek, just the plastic flange on the end of the cable itself.  But someone on the Board must have a parts car with those little bits.  Or, try e-mailing Blunt to see if they're still available from BMW--a surprising number of small bits like that still are.

Good luck--wish I had the parts you need but I just have a couple of broken cables that I'm trying to figure out how make replacement plastic tabs (what usually breaks) from metal and attach 'em to the cables.  So far, no luck...yet.

cheers

Your subject/title is a bit off base vs. your request.  You might edit it to say "sunroof parts needed" or place a want to buy post in the classified section.

Good luck!

Dave -  here are the two pieces I believe you need.  I removed them from an old used set of cables I had - one side was already broken.

Special pin bolt, washer and serrated D-shaped nut.  They appear to be made from brass.

I hadn't noticed this before. The bottom recess of each plastic cable piece is marked Left and Right.

Note the upper one in this picture is missing the rod which secures the roof via the swing-away lever.  The plastic is broken there.

Hi Jim,

Today we prove that every tiny bit of broken BMW is important to someone, somewhere!

These are the parts I have either lost or never had, my cables are fine and all serviced ready for action, my roof panel has the guides at the front, just waiting for these trick parts to make it move!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
