How 'bout A Gtg Sometime This Month?

Hey there fellow Rocky Mountain 02ers!

Looks like we've got a bigger contingent that I thought we might -- cool.  Since the weather's starting to be nicer now (fingers crossed, it's CO) - I thought is might be time for a Get ToGether (aka GTG/Meet)?

I was thinking maybe we could try for an upcoming Saturday or Sunday, somewhere between 11am and 2pm.  ??

Location TBD -- we can pick something based upon group feedback/input --  though I think the Red Rocks parking lot might be a nice spot.  I also know a spot in Golden in- town that might also be cool.  Open to other ideas too - like perhaps a meetup after work one afternoon.  Hell, maybe we could even consider including a local nearby foothills/mountain drive.

Respond with your thoughts, gents, if interested...

Tom

ps: something else to put on the radar - BMWCCA is holding this year's Oktoberfest in CO (Beaver Creek) - June 15-20.  Who might be going?

Where we goin’? … I’ll drive…

Tom,

Sounds like an idea to persue.  I'm pretty flexible on the date/times.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

We should Blitzkrieg the Burger night in our '02s !!!!! Which location?

OK, here's some info on the Denver BMWCCA Burger Nights.  They're held at area Sonic drive-ins.  It's a good casual hang - eat and talk bimmers...

The first one of the 2014 season is THIS Saturday, 5/17 at 1:30pm.  No need to be a CCA member to show.

One of these locations would be OK for me.  It would be fun to get a mess of 02s there, all pulling up together!  :P

Centennial (South Central): 11237 E Arapahoe Rd.

Littleton (West / Foothills): 7561 Shaffer Pkwy.

If this date doesn't work - we should likely first try for our own GTG, and then plan to hit a Burger Night later this summer en masse.

We should do our own anyway...   any weekend day after June 7/8 works for me.  I've hosted a few way up here in Berthoud, and would be willing to do so again, but it's kinda north centric for the general population.

I haven't been to an 02 get together in years and would love to see some other cars. I'm on the western slope and the only car show I get to is the Glenwood Rallye. I am in Denver Saturday and may be able to make it to Sonic. Anybody else going and which location?

If Tom Schultz is heading to the Centennial Sonic location, I'll head there.  [Each of those locs are easy enough for me.]  Landon -- if you can make it out there too while you're in town, great.

For the meet -- 02ers without their 02s is just as cool.  Heck, I wouldn't even mind a few other interested classic Bimmer folks joining us either.

Art -- only registered attendees can display cars, even in the non-judged part of the Concours.  I'm going to do mine, and also participate in the Show-and-Shine.  If others are registered and showing too - yes, we should definitely try to get our 02s together. [great idea! - I'll check with the Ofest folks to see if/how we can try that...]

Great to see the interest in an 02 Meet!

Tom,

Thanks for the registration heads up. What was I thinking! Probably have to park on the street, though I'm sure there's a fee for that as well. Seriously, if you find that we could possibly all park together, let me know. I think there is a base registration fee that is fairly reasonable.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
