did you have them turned or replace them?  i measured the new, unused ones i got as spares...runout 0.004.  even new they appear to be out of spec.  interesting though...the wilwood spec for max allowable runout is .005-.008.  other places i have seen the max at .002.  i know i had huge brake vibration and when hand turning the rotor it definitely caught the brake pad a the high point.

that is what happens when a valve hits a piston, gets bent, hits the piston a bunch more, breaks off, rattles around destroying the plug, then knocks a hole in the piston top to let all the little metal bits drop into the crankcase.

I don't think I saw this specifically mentioned but was the change from the IE to SG radiators just for added cooling when tracking the car? I've got an s14 that runs hot in city conditions (mostly the temp starts rising when I'm at a stoplight), and I am trying to find a suitable option with SG no longer around. Do you recall which IE model you had been using and is it something you would recommend for a street application?

yes, change was for increased cooling on track.  i had the street IE rad.  it is basically the same size as an e21 rad.  IE also makes an alum race rad that might work better. challenge with an S14 is the thickness of rad and the clearance to the WP pulley if you have not moved the engine back.

I went with an custom SG rad because i wanted some particular dimensions.  mine is not a stock size (not even stock turbo size).  as shown in the pics, mine is also pushed forward and to the right as far as possible without it looking like i hacked up the top of the rad support.

it is made from the upper and lower tanks from two stock 2002 rads cut and welded together to make a wider one and fatter core.  any good radiator shop should be able to replicate.

also key is getting the electric fan right sized and as close to rad as possible without the blades deflecting into the rad.  this part is probably the most important for a street driven car.  no matter how big the rad is, the cooling is limited by the airflow through it.  more air=more cooling.

If I recall, we did turn them.

And they warped again after.

that's not what i wanted to hear!!  we shall see how mine wear....

big update for the car!!  usually i abstain from mods that provide only looks and not performance, but in the spirit of The Vintage, i made an exception to that rule.  i have had new roundels in a box for a year now, not wanting to disrupt the patina of the chipped and scared ones on the hood and trunk. i caved and put them on the car.....

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
