BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan
Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four. The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series
In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show. BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars. Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.” Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic. Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers, The BMW 2002 Production Run
BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated: small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan. Aficionados know better. Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run. Weber DCOE sidedraft question
Stupid question of the day. What is the hole with the arrow on the front of the carb for? I have an airbox custom made by the previous owner that I am going to switch to Corsavelocita adjustable velocity stack air filters. Reason I ask is that the airbox I have now filters any air going into that orifice. With the velocity stack filters, that hole remains unfiltered. Do I need a filter of some sort over this? Guessing no as it is uncovered in the advert for the product but wanted to
I. E. Crankshaft pulley on eBay
4” pulley currently unavailable at Ireland engineering. This one I found on eBay definitely looks like the 4” pulley (4 holes) but the seller sent me this photo (the one with the tape measure) that makes me wonder if it’s the 3” one for “race cars only”. any chance one of you can ID this pulley?
Guys, check this motor out…!?
My nephew bought an e21 a while back and what was under the valve cover was .. freakish! Today they have the motor out for resealing and we found that the head work and Engine internals are interesting as well. I had hit up the e21 legion in fb a while back and learned that the motor was from a 2002 and that the owner/builder was an avid racer in the Eugene Oregon area. The motor saw several induction variations from side drafts to injection with turbo, etc. etc.. and finall

Troubleshoot a Tii Cold Start Circuit
Troubleshooting your Cold Start Circuit The Tii cold start circuit consists of several components. If you suspect the system doesn't work, a few basic troubleshooting steps with a voltmeter will help you track down the problem. And don’t be surprised if it isn’t always the cold start relay (CSR) - the biggest “aha moment” I had was realizing that the thermo-time switch (TTS) provided the timing, not the CSR. (Lesson learned - if the system isn’t spraying fuel long enough, check the thermo-t

Installation of BMW 2002 Door Glass and Door Components
Installation of BMW 2002 Door Glass and Door Components Larry Gray @2002#3 and Karl Bergmann @bergie33 (6/27/23) A door or window component installed out of order can easily block the installation of a subsequent part(s). The result can be wasted time, lost energy, and mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual upheaval. Therefore, a reasonable and practical order of installation of components is important to overall '02 happiness. This tech article will cover the proper ord

Freeing Stuck Rear Brake Adjusters
One of my least favorite jobs on a 2002 is adjusting the rear brake shoes in order to lessen the brake pedal travel. In principle, it's easy—you just pull off the rear wheels, take a 17mm open-end wrench, put it on each of the two adjusting nuts on the backing plate behind each brake drum, rotate the drum, turn the adjuster until you can hear and feel the shoe rubbing against the drum, back the adjuster off a tiny bit, do the other adjuster, then move to the other side and do the same on the oth
Front Strut Replacement The Hack Mechanic Way
Front Strut Replacement Overview Okay. It's time to replace your front struts. Maybe you're doing it as part of a shocks-and-struts job. Maybe you're updating the entire suspension—shocks and struts, springs, and sway bars. Maybe you're doing a full front end refresh including ball joints, tie rods, center track link, and idler bushings. Maybe you're doing an undercarriage refresh and are sandblasting and repainting the subframe and strut housings at the same time. W
Chillin' Louie: To Coldly Blow (Part IX: Firing it up, buttoning it up)
Okay, with the compressor and bracket, condenser and fan, evaporator assembly, receiver-drier, hoses, and wiring installed, it was time to fire it up, then button it up. Similarly, with the project itself complete, it's time to button up this series of articles. As such, this is a long piece that touches on a number of topics. Leak detection There's a whole chapter in my a/c book devoted to leak detection, and specifically to the use of nitrogen or other dry inert gas to

Wiring Harness for the ECUMaster Classic
Building the wiring harness was arguably the most difficult part of this project so far. I'm using a flying lead kit from ECUMaster which definitely made things easier since the wires are color coded and labeled. Here's the shielded sensor wire termination & junction with the sensor ground. Shielded wires made up the base, then I started twisting the first layer of other inputs, ground and 5v. '' Coil and injector wires are the top la
ITBs have arrived!
Parts have arrived, and it didn't take long for me to test fit the ITBs.. They're beautiful! The red string in the photo is the beginnings of the wiring harness layout. Unfortunately the carbon plenum won't fit over the brake booster.. Do I delete the booster or cut and mold a notch into the plenum? The EMU Classic will sit above the tunnel on this aluminum bracket. Sensor Success and Fire Safety Fun.
So I am tidying things up in the trunk, and spent some time building out a bracket to hold my E85 sensor. I wanted it out of the elements, so I decided to mount it in the trunk to keep it dry. I got a PLA 3D printed mount and quickly realised that I needed to do a little better. I built the bracket below, drilled and tapped it with my newly acquired metric tap set (amazon to the rescue). It turned out ok. The tab that says fuel I will replace with a metal one. It is sturdy now a
