the short answer to your question is there are no dealers you can count on to find a nice '02. the car is just too old. a corollary to this is that most independent BMW shops won't work on them.

personally, i think you need to be able to turn a wrench to own a 2002. just not economically feasible to have a professional shop maintain one.

you might be better off with something like an e36 318ti.

old bmw's ARE cool, though. if you have your heart set on one, read the faq at this site , find a shop that will do a pre-purchase inspection and buy a car for less than half of your $10k with the idea of spending the rest on it after you have it. ALL used cars require sorting out after purchase.
