Nice. This is a very detailed how-to. I particularly like Crane's XR700 and 3000 because of their easy-to-install optical sensor. As you mentionned, all that needs to be done is to put the motor at TDC and rotate the dizzy until a spark occures. No gap, no dwell to measure as it is the case with the pertronix. Great work.
I my racecar, I installed the coil in the passenger footwell (inside the car and away from the engine bay heat, next to the XR700 module). No electronics in the hot engine bay and away from water.
