My 1969 1600 had a 10.5 gallon tank. The 2002 is not much bigger. Maybe 1 gallon more. I got 25 miles per gallon on the freeway. So I would say you are probibly not getting 250 mile per half tank.

1974 / 5 / 6 gas tank capacity is 13.5 gal (50 litres)
reserve light comes with approx. 30 miles remaining

1968 / 9 gas tank capacity is 12.1 gal (46 litres)

1966 1600 gas tank capacity is 10.1 gal (38 litres)

in all cases, the RESERVE light comes with approx 30 miles
remaining - DEPENDING ON YOUR DRIVING HABITS.

uhhhh, where's this 'reserve light' you speak of? I've ran completely out before, and never saw any reserve light...

The reserve light is the red hand brake light. I guess I'll have to look at the wire diagram and test the "reserve" circuit to see if she actually works.

Has anyone else done this B4?

You must be running resistor spark plugs which prevent the reserve light from activating! Or is it the other way around? Maybe you are not using enough sea foam!

My reserve light appears in a large plasma screen that rises from the rear seat so that I will see it in the rear view mirror. Because I always keep the tank full, I have never seen it though!

There's no reserve light on a roundie.

I fill every 200 because I can't reset my odo,
and that seems to equate to about 9 gallons.

Figuring that an early roundie might have 12, I guess you might
make it to 275 miles, maybe 300 if you're doing better than 25 mpg.

I tend to drive digitally a lot... so you might...

bricklayer, I didn't see that anyone mentioned this. The fuel tanks are beveled inward at the bottom so when you see 1/2 tank you are really seeing somewhere around 2/5 tank. This had me fooled when I purchased my 1st 02.

to reach half full, then drops precipitously from that point; with my 5 speed I've been getting around 275 or so around town miles before it hits the reserve red line on the gauge.

And BTW, I've not seen a US 2002 with a low gas warning light. I think the Euro cars used our brake warning light for low fuel, and for manual choke on but not the US ones...didn't want to confuse us, I guess.

Yea that sounds right i stick to just filling up around 250, can't trust a 30+ year old gas gauge.

mine seems to do the opposite of others it drops straight to zero after around 150 miles, and i have takin the sending unit out and cleaned it there was lots crap in it just something that others might wana do if havn't already.
