You start with this:

Add a little of this:

(notice the proximity of the car on the left)

And you end up with this:

I am still waiting to hear from the Rental Car company. I have extra coverage purchased thru AIG, so I should be ok...

The truth is that the French have still not been able to figure out how to make a decent car! LOL

you'd better hope they're not like the british rental agencies, cuz if they are...

you are dead meat......

i couldn't believe how thoroughly my rental car was inspected upon return. i had to really do some fast talking to get them off my back for some minor curb rash to the rims (took a corner too close on a back road in scotland).

good luck.

do you know any body work guys??? ;)

Bummer, sorry to see the accident. Hopefully insurance will cover it. Out of personal curiosity, was that photo taken by the Tarn River? For many years, rock climbing was my primary focus in life, and with southern France being such a mecca, I spent quite a bit of time there. Your photo of the tunnel looks very reminiscent of a tunnel by the Tarn where there are some spectacularly tall limestone cliffs where folks climb. Just curious...

Not the Tarn, this is about 20 miles north of Nice, France, but it looks that would be also ideal for rock climbing. Saw a lot of people doing all kinds of outdoor sports, mostly bicycling and hang gliding.

Aside from the 'pinstriping' how did you like the 407? We're headed out to Germany and France next month and I need to rent a car. Rates for the 407 weren't too bad, I've used autoeurope for rentals many times before, who did you use??

thanks

I used Sixt, I think it is a German company, they offered a 1 series, but I "upgraded" to the 407. The 407 is fine, nice handling, steering and comfort. It is pretty much a GT (ie highway car), 4 people can ride in it very comfortably, the diesel engine has lots of torque and can reach 100 mph easily. My only problem with it, is that A pillar obstructs the vision when you are making tight turns, the front of the car seems to be way out there and it was hard for me to gage distance - age I guess. If you are driving in the city, highway and not in small country roads the car is really cool, quiet and fun. Of course I am partial to German cars, the VW Golf, being smaller and more spartan seemed to be more practical. Style vs Function.

The extra insurance that I bought was from AIG, because initially I was planning to use Hertz and they wanted an arm and a leg, but as it turned out Sixt offered a Super CDW relatively cheap (the one that if you crash just turn the keys and walk away).

Bare in mind that the car that you reserve is almost never the one that is available. A trick is to get the lowest and wait to see what deal they can give you for the "upgrade". That's how I ended up with the 407.

Finally, I couldn't figure out how to open the trunk without the remote, until I read the manual, you have to push the zero on the 407 badge...only the French!

Or otherwise titled: How I get to charge my trip as a business expense.

Bummer.
At least it wasn't in the Bimmer.
