Subject: Green signal indicator

My green directional signal light glows dimly and steadily all the time. It also flashes properly when using the turn signal. Is this normal? Could I have a short?

Your flasher relay needs a good cleaning of the contacts, it is under the dash.
Pull, remove cover and inspect contacts. it is a long rectangular box.
if you dont want to clean it try and find a matching one at local auto parts store.

Subject: Yep, once you pop the cover off the flasher unit (the

smaller relay under the dash just above the hood release handle) you'll see two sets of relay points. The smaller set is for the dashboard green flasher light, and it's supposed to be open when the larger point set that causes the outside turn signal lamps to flash is closed. Bet you'll find that small set stuck nearly closed. As was stated, clean the points, then turn on the turn signals with the ign on and observe the points opening and closing. Carefully bend the moveable point until it's working reliably, reinstall the cover and you're done.

Subject: Yep, the "old one blink on the inside light"is caused by the

same thing--dirty or misbehaving points inside the flasher unit--the smaller set of points that cause the inside light to blink.

The trick is to carefully bend the moveable contact point until it opens and closes reliably. What I did was to make this adjustment with the ignition on, the engine not running and a heavy current draw operating--like the heater fan. Once you get it working properly in that mode, it'll blink just fine with the engine running, as more current will be flowing to the flasher unit.

Saves the cost of a new flasher, or the nuisance of adapting one from another car.

cheers
