Subject: DC-area Vintage BMW Gathering II, April 12th, 2008 - UPDATED

We're once again planning a Vintage BMW Gathering at the Carpool in Herndon, VA west of DC.

In 2006 we had a good turn out of about 40+ cars and we had a great time. Carpool Restaurant and Lounge will again serve as host: http://www.carpoolweb.com/CPH/

This year we're hoping to have more cars, more prizes and more fun. So mark your calendars DC, VA and MD people.

This won't be a concours, shine and polish event but we will have a People's Choice award and a Patina awards as chosen by the attendess. Any and every vintage BMW (up to and including E23, E24, E28 and E30) is welcome to show and anyone is welcome to attend...motorcycles too!

Hope to see a good group of 02s there!

Thanks,

brad.

::EDIT:: Here is the show poster for the event. Please note the start time of 1pm! See ya there!

I guess that I'll have to reset my "goal" of having the '74 ready.

OK, no problem. I'll just move it up a month or so.

Thank you, Brad and Jonathan, for the inspiration!

Later,

Well, how could I resist an easy lob-ball like that. Here goes nuttin'>

1. Wet t-shirt contest (what - you actually thought I wouldn't suggest that?). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuC5AZQLZk4&feature=related
2. Aerobic pole-dancing lessons. BYOP (bring your own pole). http://www.peekaboopalace.com/
3. Fruitcake eating contest (instead of pies or chicken wings).
http://www.ifoce.com/news.php?action=detail&sn=51
4. Bacon-grease award (for the most Zymol/Armor All).
5. El-Cheapo trophy -- awarded to the person who spends the least amount of money in your restaurant.
6. Beerfest-style boot chug (see the movie).
http://www.truebeer.com/Half-Liter-Beer-Boot-Set_p_0-280.html
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/funniest-das-boot-chug-ever-beerfest-2007/2249097369
7. Give-Wegweiser-a-Wedgie contest. Followed by the tighty-whitey/wife-beater-t-shirt award (see pictures below from two years ago).
8. Pocket-pool award (for the guy who does the most standing around with his hands in his pockets, gabbing about wheel offsets and tire combos).
9. DQA -- Dumbass Question Award - for the first person who looks at the Isetta and asks, "What's that?"
10. Food fight (face it -- your restaurant can be a little tame in the afternoon. If you won't go for the t-shirt contest, we might as well have a food fight).
11. Cat-hearding contest (bring your own cat, cowboy). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SmgLtg1Izw
12. Australian-rules football in the parking lot. For real men only. Or NZ Rugby; same difference.

And the bonus - if she'll cooperate and send one in -- raffle off the autographed picture of Biscuit3, topless. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,300668/

Again David aka Otis great ideas from you.....

Just to guage participation, who is planning on being at Carpool on April 12.

Thinking about food, staff, parking etc.maybe some creative trophys .

We are working with a few companies for give-aways for all who show up.And looks like we may have a couple of guest speakers on 2002s.

Tell your friends,it would be great to have a turnout at least as good as last time.Additional benefit of good food and drink in the VIP Lounge and billiards.

Thanks All
Jonathan

2) . . . the VIP Lounge

1) Truthfully, I really think that it depends -- whether, for example, this will be one of those pocket-pool, park-and-gab events -- or if instead, we do something FUN. Hmmm, let me think -- pocket pool, or fun . . . pocket pool, or fun . . . let's see . . . I think I'll take, FUN!!

Now granted, fun for me involves a different set of standards. Take, for example, your average night of Chocolate Syrup Wrestling. Now, that's fun. I'll even help chip in for the inflatable baby pool.

http://www.dnalounge.com/gallery/2005/03-31/
http://www.chocolatesyrupwrestling.com/

Combine that with some of my other suggestions, and you've got yourself a real ballgame. Also, why can't we come in costume, like last time? That was fun, too; see photo below.

Please, please, please - let's do something fun. You don't have to take any of my suggestions (unfortunately), but let's do something other than stand around and hand out plastic trophies. Can I at least bring my paintball gun, for the "guest speakers on 2002s"? I can't think of anything more fun than listening to a wheel-offset or megasquirt lecture; that might even beat the other night when I was sitting around watching paint dry. But, if we can blast 'em with paint balls -- now that's fun.

2) Bag the VIP lounge. How about a Champagne Room? I know, I know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Vv47myQts

PS -- whatever you do, don't click on this link. Although it contains footage of the perfect car wash, there's nekked chicks in there. And Lord knows, I wouldn't want to offend anyone with a video of nekked car-wash chicks. So I repeat - do not, under any circumstances, click on this link. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8386282926052108071

It looks like Bob's BMW will join us this year with a variety of vintage BMW Bikes.
Should make for some nice eye candy.

That's just about enough neutral vibes and commentary from you, Mr. Worry Wort. It will be sunny, and we will have fun. I'm bringing Ashley/Kristen, and it's only setting me back $4,300, plus the train ticket from NYC. The after-party is at the Mayflower.

Jonathan, you run a class operation at the Carpool. But the best thing about your restaurant - all of those great beer taps!

So glad the NC, central and SW VA contingents could make it. We even had attendees from outer-flung MD and PA. Although Otis showed up late w/out any of the guests shown in his previous posts...
It was nice to see some new faces and get the dust & cobwebs off the beautiful cars and replace them with pollen.
Thanks to Jonathan, Anne Marie & Brad for putting this together for us!
