So I'm driving back from a haircut today in my daily driver '72 2002, and I see coming toward me, no, it couldn't be, not around here, an early red 2002. (You don't often see these cars around here) So I flick my high beams, give a wave and... NOTHING, nothing in response??? No love WHATSOEVER!
And I sometimes wonder why I moved back from SOCAL.

That sucks.... but to take us off-topic with the first post, I'd like to know what you think about Philly. I've got a company bugging me that wants to give me a job in neurophysiology. They want me to do a fellowship for about a year in Philadelphia, then I can work elsewhere in the northeast.
Philadelphia doesn't sound appealing to me at all, but I've never been there. I may come over for a visit sometime in the next couple weeks to check it out, and decide whether the company is for me.

Oh, and if I'm there I'll pass you with my 02 and wave back. :)

Same thing happened to me once, but I wasn't in my '02..I was in my "old" E28 M5....I came up on a newer M5, and I just knew the guy would give me a wave or something...I was right there! I looked over to wave, thumbs up , etc. and he had "no damn clue"...just some rich bastard in a new M5...he probably didn't even care it was an M5. Amazes me, it really amazes me how many non-enthusiasts are out there driving really nice Bimmers! ...and they're "clueless!!

As for Philly, the other poster needs to come down and take a look. It's a mixed bag...depends on what you like and where you will work. Traffic has got to be as bad as LA with a gazillion "less" lanes to travel in! It's not my cup of tea, but Philly has lots of history, neat artchitecture, close to lots of places. Not many Bimmers in Ohio...but there are tons of em in the Philly area (I know, my son lives in Ohio).

Philly's actually a great town, you like great food and beer?, Philly has LOTS of it. It's just a different attitude 'round here. People are a lot less free spirited and open minded. It's like people are into their "thing" and can't quite see beyond it.

dont feel too bad. i leave before my wife every morning to go up to her practice and clean and do maintenance. i drive by her every morning on the way back home. i flash my lights, wave my arms out the window and sometimes swerve at her and rarely does she even notice me. it makes me wonder how she can even drive without getting in an accident. she seems totally unobservant. i know whats coming at me from all sides and whats passed me. i am about 50 times as observant as she is at least when driving

If there were two kids in the back with childseats, that was probably my wife. She probably never noticed and had the radio blasting "Lion King".

It's a 1975 (production 12/1974) 2002A and it's Granatrot.
We live in Cheltenham and love the car. Got it from Cali about 4 years ago.

Stop by sometime when you're in the area.
7818 Oak Lane Rd.

David.

btw, you don't happen to have a gas tank for this car do you? Mine rusted through and got patched with a epoxy kit. Don't know how long it'll last, though.

Yeah, where did the incident take place? Center City? Suburbs? I lived in Philly most of my life and driving commands most of your attention most of the time. Nothing personal I bet.

I can't flash my lights anymore. My low beams are halogens and my high beams are xenons. It takes the xenons about 5 seconds to power up, so probably can't see them if I attempted a flash. Just letting everyone know in advance that if I could, I would. Maybe you'll just have to listen for a "beep beep".

It was on Glenside Ave. in Glenside, I live in Elkins Park. That's so funny. My apologies, I just miss LA/ Orange County alot and tend to use Philly as a whipping post. I'll definately stop by. That's a sweet car.

Wow, that is rare to see another 2002 in Glenside. Not a huge amount of traffic there either, could just be an East Coast thing you know? I was born in Rosyln, moved to Oreland and grew up most of my life in Mt. Airy.

Philly is a good town that had a bad rap 15-20 years ago. I went back the other year and the city has really come a long way. Nice roads to drive too just west of the city!
