Here the first couple of photo's of my right hand drive M2 project.
I've been gathering parts and trying to do some research. In addition to the normal S14 swaps problems ,you have to move the brake booster, figure out something to do with the steering to get the exhaust to work and have a custom exhasut made.
So far I've snagged some Volvo calipers, e21 hubs, e21 fuel pump, and a set of old e21 vented discs. After a call to my mechanic on tuesday I was given a set of equal length 2002 headers from a race car(which clear the steering box), and a set of s14 headers with the correct BMW exhaust flange. Apart from the gearbox install, the exhaust is probably one of the bigger issues.
I moved the car under the house, removed the bonnet( I don't suggest doing it by yourself), pulled the radiator and called it quits for the night.
Heres the parts haul and progress so far. Its not much but its a start. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"

It sure warms my heart to know that Karl is now one of the gang. And Andrew, from what I've seen of your car at this point in time, it's going to be awesome! Love the project entries, they really get me motivated and I'm sure it does the same for everyone else as well. As always, don't lose touch!! _________________ "It's what you feel, not what you ought to. Reasonable and sensible."

After much labelling of wires and hoses, the engine is out.
I know a lot of people pull an engine by themselves, but I'd recommend a helper. I'd also recommend you check to see if your hoist will fit under your car! I had to go from the side and jack the car up while the engine was in it. Once the weight was oof the front axle it was ok.
The engine looks like one of those Exon Seals, covered in oil. Its filthy! So subsequently, so is the subframe, suspension and steering. Its only saving grace is that it may have stopped the spread of rust and limited it to surface rust. So I'll clean it all up repaint those areas needing it and make it as pretty as the new engine is. Somewhere along the way I'll move the brake booster and redo the fuel line situation.
Next is to remove the sump and oil pickup and have a baffle and windage tray made up. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"

Whoa, what a HUGE job! Be careful hanging that engine on that board. Hopefully it won't pull your lovely house down! Good on ya for finally getting it done. _________________ "It's what you feel, not what you ought to. Reasonable and sensible."

On closer inspection, these are loafers, errr, I mean, you're right. Sorry, it was only a quick glance and I assumed. How silly of me. I guess I didn't realize you had already planned ahead. _________________ "It's what you feel, not what you ought to. Reasonable and sensible."

Simon, I can be emailed at for more photos of the carbs.

But the carbs are twin 40mm Dellorto's with ramflo filters on BMW two piece manifolds. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"

Just a small update, I'm still waiting on the engine. Arrival of the engine may require some brake lines to be re r-made and the position of the second servo adjusted, but I'm getting the hang of it so it will be easy!
Engine bay has been cleaned up to reveal some surface rust that I need to deal with. I'm determined to try and egt the engine bay as clean as the S14. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"

Lets try this again.
Vented DBA's are on. Calipers need washers to space them properly. Dust plates needed to be trimmed to fit the caliper and the cup cut off to fit the e21 hub.
I played around with the wheels I have and noted that the e30 steelies had to be wiggled of the hub. The centre opening in the wheel was a bit too tight.
The fuel system is all plumbed, but I think my pump has crapped out on me.
Next up is to clean the surface rust up in the engine bay and give it some paint. I might also make a start on the electrics. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"

Nice work Andrew... keep at it, this is going to be great! I cant wait to see it when it is done! Might be worth giving Alan a call to see if you can go for a ride shot gun with him for insiration :-)
Brakes look good, I was going to source rotors from the US, but I think I will go down the line of DBA as well and support the locals.
Keep us posted!

Pulled the engine from the donor car today.
Its now at the mechanics waiting to have the M10 sump modified with a windage tray and be baffled.
The plan is to now transport my car to the shop so the steering can be modified with an e21 rack, any work to the tunnel can be sorted out and the exhaust can be sorted.
Unforunately my car is down the list in terms of priority. Its behind an alpina 635 turbo, and 2 2.5l s14's, one of which is a turbo. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"

Jealous here! Good work Andrew! I love it. Our engine swap has been delayed until hopefully next weekend. But in saying that, who knows? It was nice to relax this weekend and not worry about car stuff. Even Karl decided not to play up this weekend, so we stayed clear of cars, went to the local tavern, and didn't go to sleep until 5am! I think in saying that, I realized that there can sometimes be more to life than cars.
But hey, you're a great inspiration to what we are planning to do. Keep it coming!! _________________ "It's what you feel, not what you ought to. Reasonable and sensible."

Engine is in!
After a few days of swapping parts with the engines previous owner (harmonic balance and starter), I picked up the engine yesterday and installed it today with some help from my dad.
At this stage it looks like the G265 will fit without any dramas, but that could be a different story tomorrow.
I'll be looking for a new radiator too as the stock one looks just too thick even if I do cut off some of the thread from the water pump.
i've included a few shots to show just how close the steering column gets to the engine in a RHD car. My idea of getting the car on the road by Christmas may hav been optimistic but we'll see. _________________ "Why is one of my reverse lights on in 4th?"
