to get a decent fucking grocery store in central Arkansas? I mean it's pathetic. It doesn't seem so bad until I go into a "nice" grocery store and see the contrast. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were in PA for our anniversary. (thanks for the congrats on the main forum btw) We stopped at a Wegman's grocery store in podunk and I thought I was "Skippy in wonderland". They had a cheese section I could have taken a 3 day expedition through...Fresh baked goods that hit my nose with a knockout punch...And fruits...fruits and vegetables that looked like I remember them looking when I was a kid. I don't get it. Arkansas...closer to CA, closer to TX, closer to FL than Pennsylvania is. Why do they have great looking produce while the stuff I'm pickin' through at home looks like it was rescued from the Jimmy Dean feedlot? I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it but I'm going to do something. I think next time I'm in Dallas or Austin I'm going to take my digital camera to Whole Foods or Central Market or even a "lowly" H.E.B. grocery store. Then I'm going to come home, make decent sized glossy prints and personally place them in the hands of local store managers. It's just not acceptable. You jokers out there in CA don't even start. I can't imagine how good yall have it. LOL

Wegman's was started here in Rochester, early 1900's and now there are Wegman's stores in PA, VA, those areas south of here. They are generally "superstores" here, very large; some have what's called "Wegman's Market Cafe" and they serve dinners with wine. My sister in law, in Yorktown, VA., loved coming up here for the holidays and going to Wegman's, they now have one in their area.

I know exactly how you feel... well not exactly, but I used to spend a lot of times in hardware stores, just looking, now I spend more time in grocery stores (the nice ones) just looking. In fact, I think it is the number one reason my wife and I travel. Unfortunately California is like an island, not very close to anything really, so that's how I justify a 10 hour trip (by plane) to Paris - rather than 7 hour trip to Vegas for instance. One of our favorite things to do in that city is to go to Bon Marche supermarket section, and pick up stuff for picnic lunches. Pick up a warm baguette, a "cheap" bottle of wine, and go to one of the thousand little parks... can't beat that!

So I guess discussing Whole Foods and Bristol Farms is out of the question

:-O

Look at the bright side...out here potatoes (much less expensive elsewhere) are a delicacy while avocados fall from the trees on your head.

But I wont mention those guys who stand on the corner selling fresh fruits from the farms. And you probably wouldnt like fresh oranges, strawberries, or mangos anyway.

(snicker tee hee)
