Do I feel sarcasm here... Or is it just regular Brit homour? Anyway. Lots of us actually race their 2002s, but not necessarely in those collector's race classes. I often race in production class against current cars and have gotten away from Historic as it is not as fun as anticipated. Too many grumpy people not participating for the actual race, but for showing off a car they barely drive.
But yes some of us run in Historic classes. And because North America is such a big continent, it doesn't mean that we all gather at this event. Personally, 500 miles is as far as I would drive to participate to an event.

Do you know of websites etc for these advents? I do belive its HSR or something like that? Be really interested in there regs, As the American cars that I see on ebay etc for sale are very much modified compared to what we can do...Just interested.

Hhhhmm looks like lots of people think the same Lee , Just looked at the results for this years event..Where are all the beemers?? There is one 2002 with what seems like the worlds population of Porsche 911`s ? Am quite sad...Was really hoping for it to be a massive event with packed grids of great historic cars.

What is the story behind HSR ? Are they not a popular historic follower? One grid only had 6 cars?

Could be the location. Daytona might be a great place to watch nascrap but I don't thing it's a spectator friendly place. The vintage events I have been to usually are picturesque and have nice camping facilities. Daytona is a steel and dirt (with some grass) bowl. It's hot and there are few places with shade (except the garages). don't even get me going on the camping rules.
I think the best vintage racing in the US are the ones at Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glenn, and of course the Monterey Historic racing weekend.
I think Road Atlanta has a good one too, and there is also Road America in Wi.

Hi Dave

HSR has their own interpretation of what is Historic and they clearly have a sweet spot for P cars. HSR, even though they will tell you they are strict in terms of car originality, is well known in North America by those who overbuilt a car that doesn't comply anymore to the usual Vintage/Historic norms. HSR sees no problem usually to accept an early 70's (2.2 litre engine) P car with Turbo 3.6. If one's car is not period correct anymore, then go to HSR. And usually it goes to an extreme. It is fine too, if it fits what you like.

I am not a sucker for originality, but let's say that HSR's interpretation goes beyond what I can personally accept. If you are into great Vintage/Historic racing, then look for Pittsburg's Vintage Festival in the summer.
