Fat Bastard?
Hardly!
40 miles?!!!!

That's it Norm. No way am I gonna be the largest one at the Shamrock.
I dusted off the bikes a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm actually gonna get out and ride this weekend. (Or maybe just don the red shorts and walk about the house for a while.)

BTW: The Pearl Izumi store in Vacaville will be open at Midnight on Friday with special deals.

Steve J. did you know there is a cool old Bar in Tracy called the Shamrock? The route last year went very close to it. I'd like to check it out some time.

After my ride on Sunday, my thighs were on FIRE. Still just alittle sore today.

I was in the bike biz for about 15-years and ran several teams. The best quality jerseys are sublimated, which means the jersey typically starts out white and each color is applied seperately. It's a pretty extensive and expensive process, but the quality is first rate. We always did jerseys, skin-suits, bib shorts, socks, gloves, warm-ups and rain gear. A production run really needs to be 75-100 pcs. to be cost effective.

As a former bike racer (late 60s - early 70s!!), I would probably be interested. Haven't ridden in years, but am restoring my old bike to get back on the road some day. (Finding some of the correct Campagnolo parts sure ain't easy.)

I'd only want a jersey if it's quality and is going to last and be color-fast.

BTW, I was the top cylcist in B.C. and came 4th in the national road championships in '69.

Gil,
Start your search on www.campyonly.com

What is it that you need?
SR parts?
NR parts?
Gran Sport parts?
Cambio Corsa?

Gil, that's awesome! Wool jerseys tubulars and leather hairnets rule! What kind of a bike do you have and what parts are you looking for? I have some Nuovo / Super Record stuff. I was average as a racer, but I had a few State & National Champs that rode for me.

Ah, the good 'ol cycling days - wool clothing (no Spandex for this kid thanks!), leather toe straps, Neetsfoot oil, helmets optional (those almost useless hairnet type), 10 sppeds (!!). Here is a scan of a photo of me in a race in the Portland Rose Festival back in about 1968.

I can't remember exactly what parts I need. It's been a while since I've worked on my bike, a LeJeune (French). Good bike, but no great looker like say a Colnago. I sold my Cinelli to pay for the Lejeune. Now I wish I hadn't. I had a Condor (English) time trial bike that had a lugless steel frame. That was very trick for its day. I also had a track bike that was custom made for me by a local shop. Stupid me sold that years ago...

I think I need pedals and brakes or brake parts. I bought some brakes on ebay, but they were not in as good shape as they were led to be. I know I need heqdset parts that have the French thread. I bought a set, but the threads were not correct. I would have to go over my inventory to see exactly what I need.

BTW, when the local racers needed wheels rebuilt or trued, that used to be a specialty of mine. I was actually pretty good at it! When I was about 16 or 17, I got a contract with a local bike importer to build a batch of about 1,000 wheels. I did it production line style in only a few days. I will probably struggle with doing just two now!!

Can you shoot me an email directly with contact info?

Thanks,
Gil

IIRC, the parts would be Record. Wasn't Super Record and the others all later stuff? I have saved the link you gave, and will read it later. Thanks!

All of the parts on my frame are clamp on. I am trying to use NOS parts, or parts that are in very good shape. The funny thing is, that I distinctly remember that Campy parts cost more than gold when I was a teenager! I'd sure hate to be in the sport now and having to fund carbon fiber and titanium parts and all the other high-tech stuff that is used these days.

Gil

ps: The photo I referred to in the post below didn't work. I guess the file is too big. I can't figure out how to edit it right now.

I've been racing for 25 yrs, road, MTB and x-cross. Started out on steel/campy/clips & straps and now race on carbon/ti etc. The old stuff is still close to my heart.

I would be in for a jersey. There are lots of semi custom options such as Voler. My brother and I run a charity century ride www.rideforkaren.com and we use Loius Garneau in Canada. Semi custom usually allows runs as low as 12 units, but it is expensive.

Here's a pic of me racing on a tandem with a buddy of mine. It is an early season enduro, lots of fun.

It's funny.
I remember when Mr Garneau was just an Artist and didn't have all the cycling products. I've got one of his t-shirts from circa 1984.

I got pulled kicking and screaming into the next cycling century. My daily ride was a steel Olmo with Campy Super Record and all of 6 cogs in the back. Alas, that bike got stolen. Insurance kicked in and I went from a 1984 Olmo to a 1996 De Rosa. A LOT had changed in those 12 years. 1995 to 2005 saw a whole host of changes, as well as a nod to the classics- toe clips and wool.

I made the mistake of selling my track bike. To make up for that error, I now own two track bikes.
