how about a forum for upcoming or past events, the main forum has some but it moves fast and threads can get missed. for people that are new to 2002s some of these annual events are not common knowledge, we should have an area of the site devoted to date/time/location :)

we do have a calendar. i am not sure how to make mopre people aware of it :)
Notice how if there is a new topic on a forum that one icon kinda lights up?
Maybe we could rig the calendar to do the same thing. If there is a new event you've not seen it could kind of flash or maybe the font would be bigger kinda thing
or like say 'NEW CALENDER EVENT' with a link on the page some where
???
or maybe you could just put the calendar link in as a separate forum. So in the list of forums one could just link to the calendar.

i used to admin a forum using phpbb, and there was a way to create a new forum, but set it up in the code so that when you click it, it takes you to an alternate link instead of to an actual forum.
