Subject: the blu demon w/ blunts tii engine

This guy was making this car a track car and sold it to me sans engine cos the idea fizzled out. Its got a CR 5 speed and some kind of funky seats. THe paint job isn't the greatest but there isn't much rust on it at all. Sadly I don't have a digital camera so I just took some quck shots with a loaner.

Blunt sent me this engine like a year ago. I've just been redoing all the linkages gaskets and shining it up and so on as time permits. It looked to be in OK shape valve wiseso I"m just hoping it'll run without needing a rebuild.

I finally got all the parts together -- so the blu demon will rise maybe by next week!!

Hey mate, that Ford is a Sierra... they had a massive history in both European and Australian Group A racing back in the age of the E30 M3.

The really good ones were tuned by Cosworth and made in excess of 500hp out of a turbo 4 cylinder. Mind blowing!

In the states they were sold at Mercury dealerships under the name "Merkur"

Apparently, Ford thought that we needed a new name to associate with the new cars. They also gave us the pansy versions with choked-down emissions regulated 4-bangers. yippee.

Ahhhh, that makes more sense then... We never officially got the model in dealerships) although they have a very famous racing history with two or three national Group A titles and a very famous incident at Bathurst in the early 1990's where they crossed the line first, but were relagated to second because the eventual winners had crashed out of the race in heavy rain in the last lap...

(Bathurst is like our Daytona 500 - it is the be all to end all in Australian tin top racing)

The best type is a Sierra Cosworth RS5000... they are animals! That is what is in the picture above. Do a google video search for "Getaway in Stockholm 2" The red thing in that is one of these.

Sorry about the Aussie racing history lesson!

Back on topic :-)

they are called an xr4ti you dont see them that often, but in Seattle I see one about once a month. They were a turbo car and if you got a 5spd model it could really get up an move.

ya I was just down there today

its xr4ti 5 speed. Sadly the woman who owns it is bat shit crazy I don't know what the status of that car is.. i'm kind of afraid to ask her.

But ya.. they rebranded those sierras or whatever for the US market.

So I made some kick ass pizzas & jetboy's wedding party is going on tomorrow.

& to top things off, my new japanese father in law gave me a bottle of 17 year old Nikka Whisky. Never had japanese single malt before, but holy crap!!! Its smooth and smokey.. very very fine

cheers

OK

Tomorrow is my birthday and I'm taking the whole day off to work on the blu demon. Engine is going in.. gotta scrub the clutch and drop the sucker in. Then get it on the rack and finishish the fuel line plumbing. Put in the starter, alternator and the distributor

add the oil, find some spark plug leads

AND START IT!!!

thats the goal anyway

Back in the 1980's I test drove a used XR4ti. Fast car. I was in high school and insurance would have been $2,600.00 a year.

Sierras are driven exclusively by wankers in the UK. (your piece of useless information for the day...) The Cossies are/were awesome though. Cosworth also tuned a smaller Ford called the Escort over here - now that was a SWEET car...
