parts could be paid for with contribution to this forum? Buyer decides value, Forum rep posts that payment is received, Seller pays postage and sends part.

hmm, interesting idea. i'll have no problem with that. if sellers are willing to donate their procedes, that is cool.

The buyer could name his own price. All you need do is word the sticky and post when payment is received, but no one is posting replies to my idea. Could it be my clumsy wording? Perhaps we need to be reminded of the cost of running the site.

Also, theres this thing on bimmerforums now... itrader or something? Works like ebay i think and you leave feedback. Would be good so that people know they are purchasing from a trusted source. I've already been burnt once.

I think a good temporary solution would be a sticky on good 'ol fashion detective work on what signs to look for before attempting to buy something on this forum and any other forums. Maybe call it "Buying Tips"

Like looking to see if they are registered.
When did they register.
How many post counts.
Doing a search on their member name to see any obvious patterns.
Making sure their email name matches Paypal.
Observing other suspiscious activities.

I'm sure everyone can contribute some other tips too.

While it's common sense for others(maybe people that have been previously ripped off) it's not so common for rest of the people.

But really, some of this can all be avoided if only registered people can make and view postings on the FAQ. This is one of the few forums I'm on that lets anyone and everyone make postings without registering.
