Subject: Non Fuel Injected Modifications - Suggestions and advice

I have a '67 1600 and the engine is just about shot. I am lucky enough to have a 2 liter engine sitting in my garage from a '72 2002. I could go the easy route and just flip the engines but before installing it, I thought I could make some modifications.

Please tell me - what is easy, what is impossible, what is cheap and what is expensive. What have you guys done - what was the estimated cost and was the HP gain worth the money?

I will not be using this car for racing so I dont need extreme HP but I do want the maximum for my $$. I know there are so many options but I want to start planning based on the experience of the people on this board.

Tii exhaust manifold, 32/36 DCDDGAV carb and a 3.91:1 differential are the cheap route

284/292 cam and 38/38 downdraft or Dual 40 mm sidedrafts (mind the air filter clearance with the brake booster) with a good header

The actual best return for the money you will invest is for you to go to a driver's school and learn to wring every bit out of what you have, but that is probably not what you want to hear.

I think the key parts are the 292 cam because it changes the character of the car from functional to agressive willing and capable. Megasquirt with electronic ignition to get efficiency and everyday drivability.
