I'm in the market for a metal bandsaw. General hobby/shop type use. What should I be looking for in terms of features, quality, etc? I really don't have a clue. It won't be used a ton, so I don't need the top of the line, but I don't want junk either.
Otherwise I'll just buy whatever is shiny, red, and comes with free steak knives.

Look for one that has a good clamping set up with at least six inches of clamp area. Look for one that has an auto shut off switch so you can work on other stuff while it's cutting. Make sure that the blade length is a standard size, and make sure that the gears are metal and not nylon. I paid about $275.00 for mine at a tool show. It works great but I have to order the blades. More often than not I just go to the metal chop saw or just use a pipe cutter.
