I don't see it mentioned in Tent's write-up, but the 02 shifter platform is easier to shorten than the E21 item, and will look more original when done. You'll also want to find a speedo cable from an automatic 02 if you can, as they are longer. If you can't find one, extension cables are available.

I found the hardest part in doing the conversion was to figure out the correct alignment before reattaching the tranny brackets. You can bolt them in place and drive aroudn for a while to make sure things are working properly before welding them in place.
