The new setup is difficult to navagate, looks like SHIT, we cant have the name hold the email address (this will lead to issues) and the type is too dam small. YES I am on a large screen lap top now. The colors for the sight look they got queereyed. CHANGE IT BACK, all this dam HTML shit just adds more problems. Just cause everyone elce uses it doesnt mean we should. Just cause you think its the latest cool cause everyone elce uses it doesnt mean we should.... If everyone jumped off a bridge would you?

Subject: It's a work in progress, so let's be kind

There's been a host of "comments" and suggestions, and to their credit, the folks doing the work have beed very receptive & still deserve appreciation.

That said, the new style is a long ways from the easy to peruse "FAQ CLASSIC" we had a few days ago. I miss it already.... sigh
Tiny type, bumped threads, hyperlinks that are not obvious, the list goes on... and possibly it will get closer to what most people like.

I would most like to see the "board" layout the messages & replies in threaded view, with the most recent at the top (not just topics, but the replies beneath each topic sorted that way.)
Do that, with default larger fonts for topics & message bodies and it will regain some of the simplicity of the Old Board.

I understand the reasons to re-vamp the board, but I really hate to see it look & feel just like all the other "forums" that never held my interest like the Old FAQ Board.

Is it possible to re-create more of what made the Old Board easy to view?

Definitely more complicated and not sure it will be as fun to just look at for a little while. Does seem to have more capabilities but not sure that's what we want.
Things seem to scroll off way quicker if no one else posts a reply.
SpellCheck is good.
Time will tell.

FAQ Clasic and www.firstfives.org are the Best boards I have ever used. Work in progress doenst invovle steps backwards, remember I have been here since the get go, yes I am picky cause I care about this board!

Sam, thanks for your feedback. I'd like to get a little more detail from you so we can address your concerns.

I'm not sure which aspects of it are more difficult than the old site. In many ways, the threaded mode should be very similar to what you're used to, except that clicking on a thread reply displays that message while keeping the entire thread visible below it instead of jumping to a new page entirely. Do you mean the site menus, etc?

The colors and banner graphic were chosen because they resembled the old site. Can you be more specific about what you don't like? Font size/link colors are known issues, and I'll be working on those today.

First, it is not required that you register to browse and post. If you want to be able to do certain things, like upload images, you will need to, but mainly that's for protection against spammers, etc. Even if you do register, your email address is never displayed on the site unless you explicitly allow it. What sort of issues do you anticipate?

This is a known issue. See above.

We did not change the site because everyone else uses it, nor because we thought it was the "latest cool." If you're interested in specific reasons, there's a sticky post in this thread that outlines some of them: click here.

We are honestly working to address these problems. Again thanks for your feedback, and if you can be a little bit more specific about your complaints, we'll try our best to address them.

Thanks for the pointers!

I've been picking through the dieselstop board, and I think it will be possible to emulate that functionality. My first impression is that it's actually very similar to this one (see side-by-side shots attached) so I was wondering if you would be a little more specific about what you like vs. this board. My first impression is that the colors are a bit crisper and the font is bigger. We decided to move away from the table-based thread view format since we got some feedback saying that the author was too far from the post title. The current thread view is designed to emulate the old site more closely. Are there other specific aspects that you like from that site that you'd like to bring over?

I'm afraid it does require steps backward sometimes, but like I said, we're working on it. I'm glad that you care about the board, and I hope you'll continue to give us input until you're happy with it.

at all for me with WFW311/IE302. I think a lot of these laptop users start using 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 and then wonder why the text is so small. Last night I checked with my other laptop, of more recent vintage using XP/IE601 at 1024x768 and there was no change in font size with that either. I do use fixed fonts, and sometimes you have to increase the font size as you increase the resolution of your screen. I had a friend's son cry about how his notebook was making him go blind and I said, what an idiot you are with 1600x1200 and a micro font to boot. Change the font or change the resolution, as you make the choice, and do not let the software/computer do it for you.

Some of you need to stop whining and being big huge babies.

A message board is NOT required for any site. They take up space and aren't free. Someone pays for this site and the board. Also, someone put a lot of time and energy into making the current boards AND IMPORTING All of the Old posts. People tried to test it to help get the bugs out. Now, we can hopefully get many more of the bugs out.

I do support the 'must be a member to post' feature not enabled at this time.

If everyone thought advancements where bad we would all be Amish. My only gripe is the load time and sporadic errors, but I know you guys are trying to fix...and remember making everyone happy is an impossibility...Thanks!
