Subject: Site Maintenance. Tonight!!!

We will be taking the site down for maintenance for acouple of hours starting around 6:00pm PST. When the site is back, you will see the new version. New look, new feel and new forum. Please discard your old bookmarks and use the new links. The old forum will no longer be there.

Thanks,
Steve K.

I just hope this change doesn't block this site as well. It is practically the only site I can get on, and is great for passing study halls.

But i know that a lot of you bookmarked the forum itself and that bookmark will just direct you to the front page of the new site. Bookmarks to articles and posts will not be valid. But i will let you know a little trick after the new site is up.

Subject: So now in threaded view, the newest REPLY bumps a TOPIC up?

Hate to start off with a whine-ee post, but I was really hoping the order of the topics in threaded view could be selected with newest TOPIC at the top (like the "old" forum).

My fear is that when each new REPLY bumps its TOPIC to the top, you can create those 'threads that will not die' which gets tiresome.
I don't want to have to page down thru a bunch of old long threads to see new topics, just because the older threads got a bump up.

Can we have an option for "fixed" view with newest TOPICS remaining at the top ?? Please?
Sorry for the big bold red font, had to experiment a little with the new tricks

john

they are all in this forum!

if you look there are 42547 topics and 263988 posts listed. All the old messages were parsed and inserted into this board, so as far as we know, everything ever posted should reside in the new forum.

thank Mike for figuring out that biz..

OK, thanks. Does the search look at all of those old posts?

I was lookinf for a few of my recent posts with thhis google search:
http://www.google.com/u/bmw2002faq?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&domains=bmw2002faq.com&q=mikem+2005+oct&btnG=Search&sitesearch=bmw2002faq.com

But the new search didn't give accurate results?

The search will search all the old posts -- in fact, that was a major reason for the upgrade. Unfortunately it takes a while for the search index to be built. It should be finished by tomorrow, and then you will have nearly instantaneous access to the entire archive. Just hang in there for a bit.
