So the only installation requirement really is to be able to operate a
valve on the outlet from the acusump which you close when you shut
off your engine and open prior to re-starting?

Be good if they make a remote pressure gauge for it, I'll have a nose
about their site - just thinking of a hidden install for a non-track car.

Cheers, Nick

you can just buy the automatic electric valve!

that way you can put the sump and the valve anywhere.

no reason to actually look at the gauge on the tank constantly but all you would have to do is buy some braided line and move the guage anywhere you wanted to...

check out this clean instalation in a e3 M3
he used a 1 qt unit and put it all under the hood.

good example of an install for a street car.

Pedro,

Not to rain on your parade, but you don't need teflon tape on the AN type fittings. The AN type fitting is designed to seal on the 37 deg flare part of the fitting, not rely on the threads. I'd be somewhat cautious since I have seen teflon tape come loose and get stuck in engines.

Nice installation though. Very well thoughout.

Couple of comments, speaking as someone who preps race cars professionaly:

first and very important: NEVER use teflon tape anywhere near an AN fitting. They are designed to be connected with no additional "stuff" of any kind. they are, as you noted, expensive purpose made fittings, not hardware store plumbing bits.

Next, you should think about a real fire system and putting the battery at least in a marine type battery box. It should be in something, and those hardware store fire extinguishers scare me. I have seen them both tear loose and do significant damage (to the driver, as it happened) in an accident.

Finally - when I used an accusump in a race car, I would follow this practice: I would crack the fitting before firing the engine to get pressure in the oil system, close it, fire the engine and get it warm, etc. Then, I would crack the fitting as I went on to the track, run the session, then try real hard to close the fitting as I ran the cool down lap. You really want to always close the fitting when you have running (not idle) oil pressure. If you forget and close it at low oil pressure (or worse, ten minutes after you have shut off the engine) then you will have excess oil in the sump.

My accusump would hold 80 psi all winter. I would store the race car, pull and rebuild the engine, pop it back in and when I went to fire it - I just had to crack that valve, see 80 PSI in the engine, and start her up! fantastic!

Cheers, Brian

Subject: Don't install the Accusump without other prep..

I posted this a couple days ago, with the earlier thread.. but it was pretty far down the board & might not have been read by anyone. So I'm repeating it here:

the accusump is popular for tracked cars, where it's most common usage is to keep oil pressure during instances where the pump pick-up sucks air.
This can occur under heavy breaking, or in corner where the oil sloshes away from the pump pickup.

The Accusump kicks in and empties itself to help save the oil system from starvation, possibly preventing damage.

But you really need to think about what happens next.
Right after that corner where the Accusump did it's magic, the most important thing is getting the exit speed, which usually means wide-open throttle as soon as possible.
Now, think about how & when the Accusump refills itself. This happens at the worst possible time, as you exit the corner at WOT, there's oil being diverted to filling the Accusump instead of going to the engine.

You really need to do everything possible to improve your oil system before you use the Accusump. The idea is to not rely on the Accusump, you do not want it to be working all the time -- better to have it available only for the true emergency.
Baffled pan is a must-do first step.
Also, plan out oil restrictors & use the proper bearing clearances and pump pressure relief settings

Thus avoiding the corner exit problem?
