I feel compelled to ask why the guy is a "butcher".
So...why is the driver of the Turbo 2002 a "butcher"?

Are you he?
Off the track in several pictures. Blowing right thru some turns with the brake locked up. I understand the unpredictable conditions, but Geez. Have a little respect for the car.

Geez...give the guy a break. Not only is not everybody a great driver, but the rest of us had to be content to see it on TV. HE got to drive it and got a lot of camera time to boot. Had he been just average..heh heh...or above average, he'd have gotten zero coverage like most all the other cars.
re: having some respect for the car...HE did not end up four-in-the-air on top of someone else's pride and joy as did that one poor individual.
Now...if it so important to some to make sure that every 2002 has a safe and risk free life..I have a 1976 sunroof ITB car with a blown motor that someone could wrest from my villainous clutches BEFORE I manage to stuff it into a guardrail, therefore ensuring that it can quietly moulder away. Get out yer checkbooks...

Subject: Turbo Guy vs T-Shirt FAQ Guy

Well, to clear things up just a bit, that was me wearing the FAQ T-Shirt... but I wasn't driving the Turbo. I drove a '73 tii in the event but got NO TV coverage for it! That's because we didn't have any incidents and finished with the car basically intact... In 2003 we DID get in the Targa video because we crashed into a pier/wharf in remarkable fashion!

The guy behind the wheel of the Turbo was a hell-of-a-good driver. You have to remember we're driving on northeastern PUBLIC roads (pot-holes and all) at basically full blast! With no recce and no "300...200... 100..." marker signs it takes a very "UNIQUE" driver to compete (and complete!) in this 2000km event! If I recall, that Turbo needed a welded diff after the first day, had overheating, ignition and gear box problems all week, and had bad case of spoiler rash by the end of the event. It was remarkable how well they kept it together and finished... there was a crew up every night working on it.

As the Targa Newfoundland motto more or less says, "Driven the way it was built to be!"
