what happened to the lower energy costs Pelosi and Ried promised us, if only they would be elected? Where's the new energy policy?

This would be a joke if it didn't hurt so much to commute to work. my 325i DD is $65 to fill. ouch! i want a re-vote.

All talk and whining, no new ideas other than fat albert suggesting we abandon carbon based energy completely in 10 yrs. and they have the majority in Congress.

When the majority party has enough members that will remain in "lockstep" in order to either have a veto-proof majority or enough votes to lift a fillibuster, then and only then can you blame a Congress.

Don't worry folks, you'll have a chance to scrutinize a workable (and thus, answerable) Dem majority come Jan. 2009.

Well Jerry, I sincerely hope the new dem majority shows restraint, which I doubt it will given what has happened up here in Washington State.
3+yrs ago we all saw fit to elect veto proof dem majorities in both state houses along with sort of electing a dem governor.
they basically passed everything they had wanted for many years, even attaching "emergency" clauses to many spending bills which made it harder for the people to block what they were doing by referendum.
Well now we have a $3 billion+ hole in the budget, and we have a constitutional requirement to balance our state budget.

I really don't like McCain, and O man is way way worse. I will vote for McCain for no other reason than to have a check against the dems who history proves are far worse at overspending than repubs, although neither party is worth a shit.

It's time to bend over and grab your ankles up here.

We do here, too, except the decifict is $20B and it aint because of Dems controlling everything (as we have Arnold for Gov and his budgets are pretty close to Pete Wilson's). There are plenty of problem, IMO, of one party controlling the legislature and executive, but I don't think you can blame most state's current budget deficits on that.

In my opinion, these are just excuses and a cop out. Why not vote for what you believe in and see where it brings you. To me, it shows leadership and princicple.

Because for one thing, you have 535 individuals that represent different districts, areas and states that have surprise....different needs and desires.

Constituents expect pork and in return, they grease your paws which allows you to remain in office and <guess what>.....bring in more pork with your increasing seniority.

A lot of the mess has nothing to do with party, it has to do with a maladjusted system. I'm just saying when you have one party in control, with a veto-proof majority and a filibuster-busting majority, then there's nobody and nothing left to blame.

However, when the Democrats took over the Oregon House & Senate, my friends over at the legislature laughed and said to me "watch how long intraparty unity will last". Even that legislature had some issues.

When elected officials vote more towards what's actually right for a country versus running for reelection, then you might see some improvement with respect to performance. Now, define...."what's right?"

I guess it's not overspending except for that teensy-weensy war in the Middle East to the tune of $560 BILLION.

You can complain about the tax-and-spend-liberals all you want, but look what has happened under Bush's watch...no tax and spend anyway -- let your children and grandchildren pay for it!

who has proposed more spending so far this election year? O man by a wide margin.

as i mentioned, neither party is very good at holding the line. democrats historically have been far worse.
spending is the reason i'm not a big fan of your and my president.

Not if you look at the last two presidents.

How could you "not (be) a big fan of" your initials??? What about your father's or your son's initials???

Ya know for a guy who boasts about his "glass being half-full," you sure define a lot of things by framing them in the negative. Not this, not that, not the other thing. That means defining things by the part of the glass that's "half-empty."

I, for one, don't care much about something that "is not". I care about something that "is."

I don't expect you to understand this "dime-store" psychiatry -- there's help out there if you recognise the need for it.
