Damon the car is looking nice mate, thumbs up for keeping it Chamonix. A guy in the next street to me has a Chamonix squarie with a dark blue interior, it's very nice. Keep up the good work. By the way that guy in the states with the steering wheel never got back to me!

Todd, I'd be interested to see what you've got, the 5 speed setup sounds interesting. I might need to be in Geelong sometime in the next month-or-two as well. Email sent.

Thanks Sam. I've gone through lots of different thoughts of what I'd like the car to look and feel like, but I've decided to keep the exterior as original as possible.

Shame you haven't heard back about the steering wheel. You might want to check www.ebay.com. There's been quite a few going up there, including this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPORTS-VINYL-STEERING-WHEEL-FOR-BMW-2002-320i-is-e21_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33704QQihZ005QQitemZ150242793294QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

You should hurry though, it's only got a couple of hours to go.

Next time I'm in Vic for work, I'll give you guys a heads up and we can catch up in Melbourne for a drink.

For sure... If your able to give me a week or two notice before you come, we should be able to round up at least the 02faq group for a GOR run.

Will do! The pics of the GOR that are in this year's calendar are awesome!

Here's the update on the car:
Coming back from the body shop this weekend, all rust has been taken out of the front of the car, only some small bits to touch up when it gets home.

Looking to start stripping the car this weekend, painting next weekend.
New photos to follow.

I dont think there was any in the calendar..

http://www.theguestroom.net/previewjpg.jpg

The March photo was from our Yarra Ranges drive and the lineup at the pine plantation. Also a good run!

Richard is coming over from Tassie in the next few weeks so we should organise drinks and 02 talk. Any chance you'd make it down Damon?

Was a bit disappointed the photo wasn't included...

Ah well... such is life.

Now sway bars? Any Victorian want to purchase some IE sway bars to have them shipped here with mine and we'll split freight? The cost of freight is going to kill me otherwise!!!

Hey Damon! I was reading through Bingbong's blog and it reminded me of you! You never emailed me those pics hey, and then I lost your number when I went through my phone and deleted all the messages in my inbox. So now, I'm back to square one with you. I see you found a panel beater, yay! Where'd you end up taking it?

Hopefully you'll finally email me and we can get cracking on those crazy plans for the first drive! If not, send me a text message when you get the chance. Karl is back in action too after I neglected him for so long (stupid boyfriends taking up too much time, but no more!), Karl is the only man i my life now and that's the way it should be! Talk to you soon bro!

Todd - Tom and I have been emailing each other about the future of Putt Putt.

He reckons you've got some great suspension parts on the market at the moment. Let me know, I'm starting to look at upgrading performance and I'd love to do the suspension and brakes at the same time I do the 5 speed transplant.

Some new photos of the car after the front body work. Still sporting the undercoating, but anything is better than the green bonnet from before.

I'm looking to upgrade to a Parker Performance console (mainly for safety with the addition of 3 new guages) and repairing the upholstery.

Todd, I'm seriously contemplating your recaros, just need to convince my dad.

Next steps:
2 Pak Chamonix paint
Cleaning the engine bay
Paint the rocker cover black

Did you nab that parker performance console off ebay Damon?

Nope, I saw that one on ebay but I'm going to buy the full kit straight from the source with all the guages.

I've got to get a few parts from Alasdair before the painting, in particular a passenger side mirror. I'm going to have to test fit it before painting.

Thankfully the door already has holes for the mirror.

The sound proofing I ordered from ebay arrived today, ready to lay on the weekend. I'll be stripping out the old carpet and tar mat this weekend, giving everything a good paint with POR before laying the new sound deadening material.

I've also just received a battery kill switch which I'll be attaching to the rear strut brace/battery relocation kit I'm about to order from TEP.

The weather in Sydney's killing me at the moment, it's delaying the new paint job quite a lot, I'm hoping for a couple of fine weekends this Winter!!

If I can't paint straight away, there are a couple of things I can do in the garage such as the sound proofing, installing the rear strut brace, picking up the Parker Performance console I'm looking to install, installing central locking (just bought a set) and an alarm. I've got no excuses to not get something done!!

Here's a pic of the console that needs to be upgraded with a few extra guages (and a new stereo).

You can also see that my little beast is an auto, a great reason to upgrade to a nice Geyrag 5 speed...

Sharing is caring...
Don't worry Bingbong, I've managed to track one down already, just need to organise to pick it up.

Btw, I'm about to order the rear strut brace from the US. You interested in getting one? I was going to ask Ash if she wanted one too, we could split the shipping and get a bulk discount as well.

Finally an update...

The car's been back off the road for the last 5 weeks getting a major facelift. Don't let the original photos I posted fool you, parts of the car were rife with rust, big sections had been bogged (bondo) and a few panels were dented.

In saying that, I know these photos look terrible, but trust me, the car is in much better condition. Once I get a few more panels beaten, there will be layers of spray putty and primer applied, smoothed and then painted 2pak Chamonix.

I'll be moving the battery to the boot/trunk thanks to a Top End Performance rear strut brace with battery relocation kit. I'll install it once the boot is PORd, the paint job is finished and I have some new lower springs to install at the rear.

[/img]http://www.flickr.com/photos/61346241@N00/2716109998/[img]

The interior will also get a big upgrade once the paint job is finished. There will be new sound deadening foam (similar to fatmat, but not anywhere near as expensive) installed in the front and rear, new carpet from Chris at only02 and potentially new Recaros.

I've got a new steering wheel on the way as well. My original is way too big, way too thin and cracked in some areas.

Under the hood, I'm looking at putting in a Weber. Originally I was going for a 32/36 as the car is a street car, but I want a much sportier feel. Based on feedback, I'll go for the 38/38 with a reground 284 cam.
(Obviously I also need to strip back the glue from the old sound hood insulation and respray with the rest of the car).

Yes, I got the 320 wheel from one of the board members, I like the (semi) period look about it. Can't wait for it to arrive, it will make the 02 much more fun to drive.

Btw, do you know which dizzy I need for your Petronix to work?
