Subject: tii warm up regulator leaking air?

My mechanic says the wax valve (warm up regulator) is leaking air. It is a brand new NOS unit. Have you ever encounter such a problem before?

No, but I have heard of people taking the unit apart, cleaning out the accumulated crud, and reassembling it successfully. IIRC, a single circlip holds the innards in the housing.

Apparently it leaks air after it is warmed up even after it is extended to its full position. Also, another problem is the leaky injector valves on the KF pump (not the injectors). I am not sure if they need new seals, and they are still available. I am not paying 2K for a rebuild. I am about to give up. I thought it was the head gasket first, but leak down test shows no problems. It was misfiring like crazy and running way too rich. Warm up regulator is a NOS unit. I am about to change it to carb system or a 318i fuel injection system because I am sick of it.

Kuglefischer is a pain till you get a grasp of it. I confess I am still in the learning phase....2.5 yrs.later.
But when you do get it right, and you will,it is a very elegant accurate system for its day.
Please don't kill a sick tii,it is just sick. The warm up regulater if you read up a bit takes in unfiltered air when it is doing its job during warm up.
