I went through numerous salvage yards this afternoon in south San Luis Obispo county today, At the back of one salvage yards, I stumbled on to a totally intact (minus radio) E30 4 door Euro spec 318i 5 speed, with Euro bumpers and straight body. Their was a BAR plate on the door sill, I didn't have my reading glasses, but it looked to be about an 85/86 318i. Car had a sunroof, no power windows. It looked I could just hook up a battery to it and drive it away. Front seat needed repair and dash was cracked from sun damage. If I can get it for a few hundred dollars, I'm tempted to buy it, it even had the flat Bosch H1/H4 headlights still on it. The license plate was still on the back, a CA sunset license plate 2EXXXXX so that put it getting registered in CA in about 87/88. I need a new project (commuter car), your thoughts???

I also found a Euro spec E23 735i (automatic), hit front right fender, but was also intact except for drivers door is gone. Car even had headlight wipers. Anyone need a Euro spec big six? There were several E23's (all automatics) in the yards, a few E30's and E28 528e's (again automatics), no E12 or E21's in the yards. All the old BMW's have gone to the crusher in the numerous yards I went to today.

You west coast guys find the coolest stuff in your junk yards. I've been wondering about wanting an M10 318i for a dd.

I'd say snap up the Euro E30 four door. Would make a cool project. Parts are cheap too.

Yes, you Cali guys are lucky.

Gordon, where are the yards? I was in SLO yesterday and SteveSB said you are now in Lompoc. I gotta go up again on Jan. 23, so maybe some Pea Soup 'n' Parts can be arranged?

A few years ago my brother Marty and myself were at a salvage yard about 45 minutes from our place and we saw a euro E-12, 525, and a euro E-23 728i. The E-12 still had the euro bumpers on it ( front was not that great, a bit 'twisted" and it still had the 4 barrel Solex 4A1 carburettor on it. The 728i had the complete gauge pod, in german, and pretty nice interior, engine had pretty much been gone through. Still though, neat to see those 2 bimmers in a local salvage yard.
