A lot of bike riders here, so I thought I would pass this along.
I've used Yakima racks for the last 20 years. My original 1A (or is it A1) rack is still going strong since 1985.
Recently, I stripped out one of the fittings on my Q-towers after swapping it from car to car. Totally my fault. I called Yakima just to see if I could buy only the part I needed. After they took my info, they tell me that they would be sending a new tower to me, gratis, and thanks for using Yakima products.
This is the second time they have warrantied rack parts even though I have told them it was from my own stupidity. The other time was driving into the garage with the bike on top. Snapped a rack tower. They sent a new one for that, too.
It's just REAL refreshing to deal with a company that still backs their customers.

99 328i with Thule 753 rack(not to start any Thule vs Yakima arguments, the Thule works on the E46 tons better than the Yak did)

Thats awesome that Yakima sent you a new rack for free. I personally am a Thule guy, but then again i sell their products so i have to be.

I have both brands.
Each has its' strengths in certain situations.
They only start to be mediocre when you expect it to do everything.
The Thule 753 that bolts INTO the roof on the e46 can't be beat.
