Take a good look at the warm up regulator and make sure it's not stuck or misadjusted and causing your rich-running issues.

Checking that the piston is up when the valves are open on #1 will ensure tdc.

You cannot use the vacuum can as a reference; someone could have shifted all 4 wires on the cap over by 90/180/270 deg ...

Pull the valve cover and make sure #1 valves are closed at tdc, and the piston is up.

Plug wires can be oriented in order on the cap in 4 positions ;-)

Are you sure the firing order is in the co ...
