Generally speaking, backfires out of the carb at low RPMs are caused by... timing too advanced

yeah, your static timing's too early. How's the vacuum advance system working? (or not, maybe...)

He's actually based out of Seattle...

but the 'vintage' guys up here have engines that wouldn't be
legal in anything short of SCCA production. ...

Not such a good idea with the bolt changing-
12mm are plenty strong.

Do use the right nuts, tho, not that I know what the right ones
for the Rotas are...

Don't buy it unless you have dents!

A stud welder is a conduction fusion welder- it welds
a small stud onto a panel, creating a localized hotspot
that you can use for shrinking if you get on it ...

What's the difference between setting the timing off the flywheel vs. the pulley?

yeah, and we've had one in town recently that's documented to within
an inch of it's life- and the flares are smoothed in. AND they were like
that from day one... ...

THe hub's too big, but that doesn't really matter as a 2002
is not hubcentric anyhoo...

That's most likely the 2002 wheel-
the spokes on the 320 wheel are different,
and the rim's leather covering lines up with
them evenly, instead of the overhang you have...

4 bolt is fine.
If you have tii spindles, then you're really fine- I ran the stock
setup for 3 years, and while it's kind of hard on bearings, it's stout enough.

The slots help with pad fade. Outgassing, you know,
and fire- band breakup.

They also reduce visible cracking, which scares non- racers...

On a street car with gently- used brakes, they don't ...

Yeah, first check the hydraulics.

Then when they work, try this:
get yourself a good chunk of private roadway.
Warm the car well, then shut it down.
Put the car in 2nd, and push the clutch in.

And if it's an 80 or 81, the pistons might just fit an E21 head-
they have a smaller pop- up right in the middle.
Which would probably clear the E21 chamber,
and give you a not- bad compression rat ...

So, you metered the big + bolt? If that dropped to zero, then
it's either a bad cable (ground OR hot) or connection or battery.

I like the exhaust theory.

But do check the driveshaft flange bolts, halfshaft bolts, and the
center bolt on the driveshaft, too.

As well as the rear hub nut.... and the center bearing and supp ...

Well, the 320/323 trailing arms move the hub surface out about 5mm.

But the turbo flares give you about 30mm more on the outside. So you'll
want (in the REAR) to go about 25mm further out than a ...
