Would make a cool retro car. Would clean up nicely.
Hope to see someone pick it up.

1972 BMW Bavaria
Color: Sahara
Mileage:
- Engine: ~40K
- Transmission: ~160K
- Body: Odometer stopped working at 134,000
The good:
Body is mostly rust-free, even here in the Northeast; car spent most of its life in central California. Just some surface rust, with the exception of the driver's front fender, which rusted at the holes for the trim clips. Bolt on a new one and you're good to go - there is no rust under the fender, even where the road debris ends up at the back.
The engine is a 3.2 liter unit from a 78 733i - flat top pistons, original FI head, was supposedly rebuilt while still in the 733i . It was incredibly clean inside and out when I installed it. Runs great, but the valves are noisy. Pulls very strong. Watch/listen to it run here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz4JqZOnUaY - though this is with the triple Webers on it and it DOES NOT HAVE THEM now. Weber 32/36 carbs are on the engine now. The carburetor setup in the video are for sale seperately.
3-core radiator installed with low-profile electric fan (in addition to engine fan). Crane XR-700 ignition. An extra head (1983 casting) is included.
Transmission: 5-speed Getrag 265 unit from a 1982 528i. The synchros are worn, but it works. A second 5-speed that has apparently been serviced (blue goop indicates it's been apart) and works much better is included. The transmission that's installed in the car supposedly had fewer miles than the other one (which I sourced and installed myself in 1998), but is worse than what I had had in there - which is why I have two and the one NOT in the car is better. Driveshaft is a rebuilt CS Coupe unit new in 1999.
Suspension: 25mm Suspension Techniques front bar, 19mm S.T. rear bar with adjustable linkage; new urethane sway bar bushings and retainers in front (the rear needs now bushings).
Exhaust: On the car is a hand-built exhaust from a small shop in California. Works fine, but a cheap muffler and it looks bad. I have a COMPLETE, BRAND-NEW OEM EXHAUST for the car from the exhaust manifolds back - i.e. downpipes, center resonator, rear pipe, genuine Ansa muffler. It's never been installed on anything. It is INCLUDED in the sale. This would be $500 by itself.
Wheels/tires: five (5) 14" basketweave alloys with centercaps, and 225R14 Riken tires. Tires don't have much mileage on them, but they are old and showing some sidewall cracking (dry rot?) A pity - these tires are GREAT on dry roads. They were always pretty scary on wet roads, though.
Speaking of which, the car has never been on the road in Winter - no exposure to salt or anything. It has wintered outside this year, which kills me, because my indoor storage is gone.
OK, the bad:
Dent in the rear driver's fender lip. Some fool bondoed it, but it will need some skilled bodywork to be fixed right.
Little dings all down the driver's side.
Aforementioned driver's front fender rust (note: I DO have the piece of trim for it, which is hard to find).
Windshield/rear window seals leak.
Car is equipped with A/C, but I never got it working (despite dropping $400 for parts including a new Sanden compressor, which is included in sale but is not new anymore, or installed in car).
Interior is tired: - dash cracks, rugs are tired, rear seat headrests are sunburned, headliner is a little dirty but not ripped, only rip in upholstery is the usual small rip in driver's seat (though I have been using a 320is Recaro for the driver's seat for the last 7 years, I still have the original which goes with the car).
The paint is TIRED. See photos.
Engine leaks oil from front lower timing cover because I was stupid when I put all the new gaskets on it (before it was installed in the car).
Let's see, what else? I've had this car since 1998, and have been through ALL KINDS of adventures with it. I hate for it to end. But the car is just sitting now, and that's about all it does. Someone else should love it in the way I only do in nostalgic daydreams these days. And I need the money and space.
