Aside from the 'pinstriping' how did you like the 407? We're headed out to Germany and France next month and I need to rent a car. Rates for the 407 weren't too bad, I've used autoeurope for rentals many times before, who did you use??
thanks |
I used Sixt, I think it is a German company, they offered a 1 series, but I "upgraded" to the 407. The 407 is fine, nice handling, steering and comfort. It is pretty much a GT (ie highway car), 4 people can ride in it very comfortably, the diesel engine has lots of torque and can reach 100 mph easily. My only problem with it, is that A pillar obstructs the vision when you are making tight turns, the front of the car seems to be way out there and it was hard for me to gage distance - age I guess. If you are driving in the city, highway and not in small country roads the car is really cool, quiet and fun. Of course I am partial to German cars, the VW Golf, being smaller and more spartan seemed to be more practical. Style vs Function.
The extra insurance that I bought was from AIG, because initially I was planning to use Hertz and they wanted an arm and a leg, but as it turned out Sixt offered a Super CDW relatively cheap (the one that if you crash just turn the keys and walk away).
Bare in mind that the car that you reserve is almost never the one that is available. A trick is to get the lowest and wait to see what deal they can give you for the "upgrade". That's how I ended up with the 407.
Finally, I couldn't figure out how to open the trunk without the remote, until I read the manual, you have to push the zero on the 407 badge...only the French!
