It took 10 days before I was able to find some time to spend a few hours on the car. I was able to disconnect the M10 from the 320i 5spd. Looks like my 228mm clutch and PP is in pretty good shape and I may use with the M20.
I also started comparing the 320i trans w/ the 323i trans and noticed two significant things:
1. I cannot find the connection for the reverse lights. (Update - Found, just behind the bell housing on top of the trans.)
2. The speedo drive gear and housing is missing on the 323i. Looks like the drive gear from the 320i will fit, but the housing is too big. I've looked all over the internet (realoem included) but parts listing for the 323i trans are hard to find. May have to put in an email to Blunt.
Metal shavings when I drained the oil from the M10 - maybe it's gold!
Flex Disc is shot:
Out with the old:
In with the new (thanks to JohnN, he loaned me his side mount and engine stand):
Looks like I scored with this electric pusher fan (12") that was used on the old a/c system - I'll use it in front of the new radiator:
Enjoy your weekend!
Chris
