Subject: Carb Question

Hello all,

I currently have a Weber 32/36 DGAV....it is running kinda cruddy and thought I'd replace with a new one....Or??

Would the next size up work better?...

As far as the car....the motor is stock, though I am putting on an Anza exhaust, and I don't drive it everyday....mostly weekends & road trips.

Also, anyone near Lodi(near SAC) that may want to get together sometime?

you'd really like a 38/38....works well with the stock engine

Are there any special mods I would need to do other than bolt it up?

Is it the same size as the 32/36 as far as fitment and (chrome)air cleaner clearance?

Excuse me, but carbs that "run kinda cruddy" are usually dirty, worn or maladjusted. The nature of your question leads me to jump to the conclusion that your present carburetor is not properly set up or some of the other common components are not adjusted properly.

The answers to ALL of your questions, including the ones you did not think to ask, are answered in the archives and various FAQ articles found on linked cites.

An M10 engine equipped with a 32/36 can be made to run quite acceptably for most folks. This is not to say that the 38/38 carb is worse or not a performance upgrade, but since you do not even know the difference between the two carbs you sound to me like you are just chasing your tail. If you cannot get your engine to perform even fairly well on the 32/36, you may be in for more of the same with a different carb. Search the archives, discover the advantages of both carbs.

i would recommend spending the small amount to get the carb tuned and jetted properly

drove w/ the same carb for 3 years and it was great for a daily... enough to have fun with and easy on the gas when you drive normally

excuse me but the 38/38 WEBER requires larger,
accurately machined mounting throat holes in the manifold
to work properly. It aint plug-n-play easysimple.

As the above state, get what you got optimized and repaired
correctly before you venture down another blind alley.

Before ya go out and spend $$. Go to your local Auto store. Get some Carb. Cleaner,Gasket Roll,Razor blade. Take the Carb. off. Spray the Piss out of it.
2/3 cans. and what ever else that is dirty/nasty in the bay. Trace the bottom of the Carb.For a templet.or what I did, little bit of oil around the bottom of the carb. Placed that on the corner of my Gasket roll.Then Razor blade Your new Gasket. Razor blade manifold,and Carb. Clean all. Gray gasket sealer. Replace in Car.. Spent $10

But if ya got Money to burn. Have at it.

i disagree...i have run 38/38's on intakes that were not hog'd and enjoyed the benefits of the 38....the difference, in my opinion between a stock manifold and one that's been hog'd is negligible...

at any rate....the 38 is without doubt a plug-n-play swap and will out perform a 32/36 regardless of intake mods

sometimes, some of us may rather buy a new carb than futz with the old one...it's possible that not all of us have the know how to rebuild a worn out carb and we don't have anyone that we can take it to that will reliably get the job done

take it to some unknown mechanic, spend $300 to have him spray some carb cleaner and replace a few gaskets and you coulda come very close to buying a new weber 38 without the aggravation and down time
