my friend Avi from NYC is meeting me in Sacramento tonight and we are picking up Carls 1972 2002 as seen here http://www.dagsites.com/carl.htm
We will then attempt to drive it back to gods country, stopping along the way at various points. our plan is to take the old alpine 500 route to tahoe and stay with dave schmenck in incline village and have dinner.. then head east avoiding all freeways. we are going to attempt to take all backroads home. we will see how it goes. crossing the nevada desert in mid july in an 02 scares me a little but carls stuff is always well put together so i am hoping we will be ok. we will be updating this little blog on the fly. if all goes well we will be in kansas city to have BBQ with keith kreeger tuesday evening. heres the link. im not real tech savvy but Avi is so check the link if youre interested to see if we are stranded in the nevada desert with buzzards dive bombing us. wish us luck.

I think I'd rather be stranded in the Nevada desert than sitting here at work. Looks like you're picking up a sweet ride! Happy trails!

Road trip in an 02??? What are you, CRAZY???

Here's "Orange Julius" near Twin Falls idaho in 2006. We traveled across Nebraska in 100+ degree heat with no A/C the day before. In less than thirty days we drove 5000 miles.

Durned if after I took this picture, he didn't want to start due to a faulty fuel pump.

I second your statement!

I've always wanted to do a coast-to-coast road trip in an '02.

Have fun!

I'm going to be in Minneapolis at the Grant, on Sunday night, leaving Monday. Looks like I'll just miss you. Maybe next time.

So do I. Been there, done that. But that doesn't mean I would go there, do that. And if I recall correctly, you owe me the purchase of one lap dance, for all of the fiberglass advice I dispensed. Alas, looks like I'll have to eat my lunch all by myself.

Shouldn't be difficult to do a coast-to-coast run in PR... distance-wise, anyway...

:)

You may have misunderstood. i told you i would give you a lap dance. and the offer is still good as long as youre wearing your orange pants

anything - we're on the east side of Sacramento (just west of Folsom, about 2 mi off US 50). Home # is 916-965-0206 - give me a call if I can be of help or you decide to try to get a few folks together.....

We did the drive both ways across 50 at about this time of year for O'fest 2002 in Colorado. Kinda warm on the way east, but 50 across Nevada and Utah was amazing - wonderful, smooth pavement, lots of elevation changes across Nevada, and about as close to zero traffic as anywhere I've ever driven. We ran for close to 2 hours at 90+ in western Utah with no issues on the way home, then almost ran out of gas before we got to Ely, NV.

The route on 50 between Ely and Fallon NV is known as the Loneliest Road in America about 260 miles of nothing.

that is a good idea. If carl's car breaks down on the way to Tahoe maybe one of you can give us a ride to the airport....after we leave the car on the side of the road and I stop payment on the check.
