Subject: Any VW Fox owners here?

I have a friend that's thinking about buying one. Simply needs el-cheapo transportation. Should I tell her to run like hell - or are they good cars (for the money)? I don't like tinkering with CIS, but are they otherwise reasonably decent cars? I just want to make sure it's not the VW equivalent of the Trabant or plagued with rediculous quality control problems like many 2000-2003 Golfs were.

I generally like cars that aren't trying to be anything more than they are. The Fox sounds one of those.

ie:

Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris type cars = good
Kia "luxury" models, or anything built in America between 1975-1995 = bad.

Thanks Y'all!

I bought a wagon with 200k+ miles on it. drove it for a year...gave it to a friend who drove for 3. He gave it to another friend who is still driving it I believe. I liked it, reminded me of my westy camper...very utilitarian.

I had one about 12 years ago (an '88 model, I think) when I was a poor climbing bum. I drove the snot out of it all over the state of Utah looking for rocks and the thing was bomb proof. No AC, no frills, butt ugly, but it got me around great for 2 years.
