i drained my 5 speed after 2k miles because i had redline MTL in there and it was turning grey. i think the tranny was dirty inside. before i filled it the first time i cleaned the magnetic plug and installed the MTL. 2k miles later the magnetic plug had a decent amount of metal shavings adhered to it and the 2k mile MTL shimmered in the sunlight like a 16 yo girl with glitter all over her. tranny is silent and shifts perfectly. its just not what i wanted to see

newly rebuilt tranny?
if so, i'm not sure i'd worry too much, but i'd sure as hell check it again 2k miles later.
interesting they're magnetic filings. aren't the synchros bronze?

Do you have a local company that can analyze the oil? That may give you some insight as to what "may" be wrong.

I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are that a few oil changes will still show stuff on the magnet plug.
There is a lot of stuff slinging around in there.

Maybe try C.D.'s trick of filling it with diesel fuel for a bit and let that evaporate off. He claims it cleans all the crud out quite nicely.

Worked for me, but I can't give you a play-by-play of how it came out after driving it, since she doesn't run yet. Cleaned a lot of gunk out of the transmission though.
