thought i heard or read someone mention that...

actually came off my junker (first) 2002...... isn't it ironic (don't you think)

looks a lot better after having cleaned it up and put in in the tii engine bay

Not sure, but I've seen most tii's with the orange cover.

Slightly off-topic (no cover on mine, BTW), but what diagnostic set-up is that connector actually used for???

I've never seen it used, nor used it, in many years of 02 ownership, repairs, upgrades, and servicing. Since the ignition wasn't originally electronic (I have a non-tii), and the electrical system is pre-computers, I'm curious as to what diagnostics were possible and presented via that connector, as well as what model and type of Dealer/Servicing 'reader' was hooked up to it.

TIA,
Tom

Big Blue book reveals the machine connected to it.

BMW Programmtester pictured in front of my book with "11 00 009 BMW Program Engine Test". Doubtful any of these are still around (if they work).

CD and others will probably have additional information.

Kind of like an old-time Sun Diagnostic machine (huge oscilloscope) with a bunch-o' cables. VW also put one on their 70's Beetles on the firewall near the fan shroud for quick diagnosis by the dealerships.

I've seen some 02's with a connector on the valve cover next to the distributor (as pictured in the blue manual).

I never messed with it, but looking at that 2002ner device you can remote start from that plug.

I'm gonna make me a harness and button. It beats aligator clips and or long screw driver jumpers.

Now where is my test light?

Cool. Thanks! Must've missed that prior thread. Pretty neat, learned something today. That 2002ner is kinda slick.

of the valve cover, on a metal bracket back towards the firewall, on '74 tiis. I've only seen 2 still in place. Mine's no longer there.
