Subject: Green dummy button... What've y'all done?

I have a bunch of these things, I've been experimenting...

I'm trying to cast a clear red resin replacement- I was thinking of lighting it red (similar to the hazard switch) and adding some lettering... Something to the effect of "Schleudersitz," but that's too many letters...

Anybody done anything fun with this? A quick search brought up a few hits with some jokes and explanations as to its existence, but nothing else.

If I go ahead and cast some lightable clear red (or other color) inserts, would folks be interested? I could make 'em fairly cheap- a couple of bucks plus shipping...

The harder part would be lettering- the silkscreened look is gold- stickers tend to look corny/tacky... If we could agree on a word, I could etch it into the master to it will be cast into the button itself.

I'd like one that says "EJECT"

How about "Go Baby"? - NOS-style...
I'd be interested in a pair of buttons, especially if they light up.

+1

That is THE legendary purpose, as Dan indicated...

I'd also spring for a lighted red button with Eject etched into it. (Light comes on when dash lights/hazard button are lit). Button doesn't actually have to move... just a visual joke.

along the lines of the ejection seat, how about one that says "ERECT".
I think that'd be cool just for the WTF factor...
Probably be best not to push it with 2 dudes driving tho

Looks like "Eject" is most preferred.

Let me see how well I can match it up to the Hazard-style lettering.

Any lighting/wiring will be the responsibility of the purchaser- I don't have the time or the energy into wiring a bunch of these things up!

Folks,

I've contacted a very reputable caster from one of my other hobbies. Here is his reply:

Quote:
I will be completely honest with you: It's kinda time consuming to do clears. The fumes, and the time it takes to bake each piece out, combined with warming molds, warming resin, tinting, mixing...degassing...pouring....pressurizing to remove bubbles....post cure bake to harden, etc... I'd say that with one mold set, 2 pc's. per hour...tops. I don't know what you plan on charging your customers, but just the cost of labor and materials and molding time alone would put you in the $15-$20 range for each part, if you go with the one piece with the retaining ring attached. For a button, that seems a little expensive for me, but I know nothing of that genre. If you're up for it, I'll be happy to do it for you. Let me know!

I'm not looking to make a dime- if you folks are willing to pay that I can pass along the materials and kick him off!

I'm going to look into transfers to match the hazard switch- I'm wondering how best to match the look.

Also, do you think it'd be better to cast this in a different color? Orange or yellow, for instance? We won't get a perfect match for the red, making it look odd- an intentionally different color might be a safer bet...
