Subject: Tranny bearing noise?

Before I had my clutch replaced I had a squeelking bearing noise coming from the front of the tranny area.

Wth the new clutch kit a new throw out bearing was installed which was suppose to be the remedy. Unfortnatelly when I got the car back later in the day the squeeking bearing noise re appeared.

Any idea what this could be? I can hear if from right underneath the steering column and if I shove my face down into the engine by the firewall.

I can't hear it outside of the car but inside is annoying loud.

The gearbox in my 74 did this. I think it's the main shaft bearing (not quite sure of the correct name)

Input shaft bearing. It should make hummm all the time like mine. I already have got a used 4 spd for replacement

The clutch bearing makes noise only when you disengage the clutch!

No just the throw out bearing that came with the clutch kit.

I thought the pilot bearing lived in the crankshaft...

other possible causes for squeaky squeaky chirpy chirps:

* dry rod in the clutch release fork lever.

put a bit of grease at the tip of the rod where it meets the release fork lever as this can make all sorts of squeaky/chirpy sounds when dry and/or no rubber sits between them.

Could be TO or pilot but check this first. Jack up the car while running and listen for your tweety sound. If you grab the clutch relese fork lever and mess with it and it stops that will definitely be it.

good luck
