"RENO, Nev. (AP) - A San Francisco performance artist was sentenced Friday to as many as four years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for the early torching last summer of the signature effigy of the counterculture Burning Man festival." . . .

Burn, baby, burn.

Burning the man a day early was a stupid selfish act.

As for Burningman itself, I wouldn't say anarchy nor anti establishment. More towards freedom from most daily arcane rules and the regular grind of each working day..... Much more of an amazing creative art exhibition amongst a grand natural setting, a good rough week of surviving the desert and kind of a community/awareness building exercise.

We all go there to kick back, relax, see the people, costumes, shows, art installations, play with fire (might be real expensive this year)and all that creativity on display and offer our ideas in return. Me, I had a few strobe lights and colorful rotating beacons with the Maple leaf about 30 feet up. At night, fellow burners love it cause they can always make it back to camp guided by my lights!!

But the crescendo of the week is the burning of the man. It's a huge ceremony/display. Parades, parties, fire shows, pre-burns galore, man's neon lights turned on!!! Then the man is ignited in a clever way each time. Flames run up the man, fireworks shoot off from all his limbs. The cheering and noise is deafening! Then he is consumed, falls back to ground, dance around the bonfire and we all start thinking of how to make next year's trip even better...

Kind of like restoring or building a car for fun, use, showing off or racing it one day...

So 4 years sounds good to me. Jackass...

Still trying to get back there one of these years....
