You described the size of the socket (13/16 of an inch) versus the size of the wrench. This leads me to wonder, in North America there seems to only be English drive-wrench sizes, for example 3/4, 1/2, 3/8 and 1/4 inch drive.

Does anyone know whether there are metric counterparts offered in Europe or Asia? Or is this the standard world-wide?

Drive type doesn't matter as long as you can produce the required torque. Bolts that need more torque will usually require a larger drive wrench.

Torque is produced by applying a force at a distance (aka the end of the wrench handle). Larger drive wrenches have longer handles, so more torque is produced. They have a larger hub to be able to deal with the greater stress a larger torque puts on the wrench.

So in America, where we use English measurements, you have 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, etc.. drive types. There's no need for the metric counterpart because the drive type measurement doesn't server a purpose, since you have metric and english sockets for both drive types.

Edit: I read your post wrong. Yes, there are metric drive wrenches.
