Subject: Tii values??

I am sure someone will torque me for starting this but what is the current market price for early and or late tii's? Lets set a standard here of an A or a 1-2 car. The reason I ask is after looking at NADA, which I know is not a real reliable place to start, a tii is worth about $4K more than my 3.0CS not to mention they list top retail for a '74tii at $43,100 and low retail at $15,200. If this is true a lot of us just made a big jump! Also there is no distinction in price according to NADA between a '72tii and a 74tii. surprisingly my '74 3.0Cs has a low retail of $13,900 and a high of $39,300. There have been some real nice non tii cars sell on ebay lately for some big dollars but what is the true value of a top notch tii??

This topic comes up frequently. Do a forum search on NADA, there's quite a bit of discussion.

guess that could only help if you have a 'Normal type' of insurance (i.e State Farm..ect). if your car was stolen or killed.

My feeling is a top notch tii in today's market is between $12k-$17K. That's what I think a very nice tii would go for on the street in different parts of the country after barganing up/down between the seller and buyer. I'm sure some cars get sold for less and some for slightly more. I myself probably wouldn't pay over $8-$10K for one being to me prices in the mid teens I feel are simply too high right now. There are too many other cars I can buy in that price range I'd rather have.

Yes, I've seen some ebay auctions where they've managed to get a bid slightly higher than that at times, but ebay is not always the real world (as we all know some use ebay for marketing and many car sales don't always go through). Auctions like Barrett-Jackson etc also have added on fees associated with then which raise the prices paid 15% or more as well. As for asking prices, many ask what they spent on their restorations or even more than that, but do they ever get it? That's anyones guess! I think a tii for $43,000 would sit for quite some time before it sold (like maybe years???)!

NADA values are not reliable either as a means to sell or to buy. I truly wonder how they come up with them! If I go by what they say on the cars I own some are valued way over and some way under. I have a good feel for what I can actually sell my cars for, and I don't even bother to look at NADA prices at all. SCM (sports car market newsletter) last years price guide listed tii's at $10,500-$16,500. I feel it isn't too far off still.

I don't know what qualifies "top notch tii". A ground up resto tii done by Werk shop, for example, worths 60K and up. Keith's Stella is probably one of the best examples of tiis in the US. It is probably worth 70K+. If you find a pristine tii with no rust under or around 20K, grab it.
