Subject: Mid-Atlantic Caravan to V@V

A couple weeks ago I sent out some tentative details on the Mid-Atlantic caravan to V@V next week. If you did not get an email and you're interested in joining, let me know so I can add you to our list. My email is matthew AT cervi.net.

Here is the plan for next Friday:
early - NJ/Eastern PA people start out and meet Robert Cruz (see his posting earlier today) in Delaware. Recommend getting gas in or just north of Baltimore.
9am - arrive at the rest area on I-95 South in Maryland just after exit 38 (near Columbia, MD). Depart at 9:15.
10:15 - arrive at the rest area on I-66 West at mile marker 48 (near Manassas, VA). Pick up the DC/Northern VA people. Depart at 10:30.
11:50 - arrive in Madison, VA at a McDonalds/gas station. Eat lunch, get gas and meet up with Bill Williams and his caravan from WV. Depart at 12:30.
1:10 - pick up anyone in Charlottesville. I know of only one person right now so we may do this without stopping (wait on the side of the road and join up).
5:30-ish arrive in Winston-Salem.

This is the route I have planned from where I'm joining in Maryland:

If you're not staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Kernersville, you'll need to find your own way at the end.

Not going to V&V, but might be able to join the drive from Manassas to Madison.

The Manassas Rest stop on I-66 is really small (both west and east-bound sides)- the next exit for Manassas (2nd Sudley Road ramp) has a McDonald's and some other places (the Mall is on the right). I think there is a Bob Evan's Restaurant on the right. Since I don't know how many cars will be there, it (the rest stop on I-66) might be OK.

We're probably going to be pretty packed at the rest stop, but I hesitate to change it at this point.

Hope you made it safely guys. Thanks for letting me join in on the Manassas to Madison run.

The run served as a good opportunity to shakedown the car. Learned a few things.

1) My battery is toast and needs replacing
2) I should have crawled under the car and inspected thing before heading out. Bolts on my half shafts backed out on the way home. Luckily, the first warning clunk happened in Manassas and I was able to limp to my mechanic without dropping one. Few minutes on the lift and I was good to go.
3) I have a cooling issue with the m20. Current setup is adequate while at highway speed, but is woefully insufficient in stop and go traffic. Time to look for a new radiator, larger pusher fan and low temp thermostat.

Thanks Jim.

That's a great looking 2002tii you have there! Hope to catch up with the group again in the near future.
