Hi all,
Is there anybody here that work's on newish BMW's? I am working on a used car-a 2002 E46 M3 convertable with an SMG. The reverse lights don't work. The wiring in the acordian boot is ok, fuses good. According to TIS the reverse light relay is in the E box with the DME in the front corner. None of the relays there match the wiring colors. I found a connector in that area which appears to have all the wires execpt one incorrect color. I ohmed out the blue/yellow wire then applied a voltage to it & the reverse lights worked. All I want to do is ground the wire going to the EGS to decide if it's bad or I have a wiring/relay problem. OR, I would love to find the relay, but nothing matches up in ant TIS diagram!
Any ideas would be appreciated!!
Cheers, Guy

Normally, and Usually it is the wiring harness on the converts.
it is a harness flexing issue from the trunk lid opening,
and a "trunk lid harness" replacement IS the normal repair = all day long. _________________ 1976 BMW 2002 #2743711(sorry I sold it 12/25/06)

CD might be very well correct. I re-solder TONS of trunk wiring harnesses - and door harnesses - usually in, or near the hinge area. Rumor has it, that old Oxygen sensor wires make great splice material (super tough, resistant to breakage under flexing) but they're bloody hell to solder!)
peel back the accordian boot/grommet and check for visual damage to the wiring/insulation...if indeed the reverse lights are on the trunk lid. I can't remember on an E46. :-(
Thanks gents! The harness is ok as I powered it up from the connector in the box which includes the DME and they both come on. Believe me, I have never worked on an E46 but when I saw the trunk harness I thought "how hard can it be, it's probably that but if not I have the wiring diagram". Big mistake. I should have kept my mouth shut & let them send it over to BMW and pay them deal with it.
